Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo Sets New Mexican Record in 200 IM

2017 Arena Pro Swim Series- Atlanta

Texas A&M’s sophmore,Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo swam to a new Mexican record at the 2017 Arena PSS in Atlanta this past weekend. Gonzalez swam in the A final in the 200 Individual Medley, swimming to a 2nd place finish (2:14.40) behind Melanie Margalis (2:11.43).  Gonzalez came into the meet ranked 2nd with a qualifying time of 2:16.85.

Gonzalez swam her freshman year season at Penn State. As a freshman, she scored at Big Tens in both IM’s, taking 11th in the 400 and 15th in the 200 IM.  Since continuing her career at Texas A&M, Gonzalez placed 6th in both the 200-yard-IM (1;56.50) and the 400-yard IM (4:07.90) at the Southeastern Conference Championships this year.

Hermosillo did not swim at last week’s Mexican Championships.
