Missy Franklin had another stellar day at the MN Grand Prix. She doubled two events, swimming them within ten minutes. She won both: 50 yard freestyle in 22.1, and 100 back in 50.9. Later, she swam on her team, Colorado Stars’ 4×200 freestyle relay.
With many fans wanting her autographs throughout the pool area and in the stands, it is clear that she was one very BUSY young lady! She does such a great job trying to connect with all of them!
May she get some rest and have another great day tomorrow.

I was very impressed all weekend by her, her teammates and her coach. She was absolutely mobbed all weekend long and she still put up the performances she did. Completely composed and constantly poised all weekend!
Her teammates did an awesome job both keeping the atmoshpere light as well as absorb some of the sheen from the spotlight from the throngs of autograph and photo seekers. Her coach also appears to be a master of getting her team mates to feed off her stardom and ability as his entire team swam well the entire weekend.
Way to go STARS!

50.9 in November??? I thought she’d probably 53, but this is sick. Same with the 1:42.2 and the 22.1. Has anyone ever gone those times in November??

For reals? Crazytown. I keep thinking she’s at Cal and then I remember she’s still in HS. I haven’t seen her swim live yet so looking forward to next year when she’s in Pac-12 and I can catch some of her dual meets for a couple years….
That will be great – to see her live in Pac-12!
Yup; I’m in L.A. now, so can catch her at USC or UCLA. Or it’s also an excuse to visit friends back in S.F. where I lived prior to here, to catch Cal home and/or Stanford meets. I love me some Pac-12!! I think the Trojans will give them a good fight.
Also amazed that she’s only 17. The facade cracked a little bit when she teared up a little bit while singing the national anthem after her first individual gold in London. In addition to her talent, her poise, maturity, and positivity are off the charts.
Was hilarious to watch Natalie swim at Cal. It was like Beatlemania when Natalie tried to make it to the warm down pool after a race-dozens of screaming little girls chasing her. Will be ten times bigger when Missy swims for the Golden Bears, Can’t wait.
And Missy smiles, smiles, smiles. Another great day on day 3? Oh yes. Based on her 1.42.28 in the 200 free and on her 50.97 in the 100 back I predict a possible 1.48 in the 200 back. It would be an american record and so early in the season it would be amazing.
I am consistently amazed by how poised and well-spoken she is….and she’s just super adorable and always smiling. Such an amazing role model…to the young and the old.
