Actress Nicole Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, hosted Gold Meets Golden at The Lounge at the new Equinox Flagship in West Los Angeles, California. The inauguration of this special event is for the Sports and Hollywood Industry to rub shoulders and get to know each other on the eve of the awards season. During a post Olympic year that means meeting the best and brightest from the 2012 London Games.
Many Olympic stars were in attendence, and swimming (and diving) greats were well respresented; Missy Franklin, John Naber, Greg Louganis, Ricky Berens, Natalie Coughlin, Rebecca Rebecca, Nathan Adrian and Eric Shanteau.
Hosts Kidman and Urban were described by the swim contingent as down to earth and lovely people. Kidman and Urban have two children, only 2 and 4 years old, and they’re already in the water. The film star and country singer are both Australian, where swimming is an A-list sport. Perhaps we’ll be reading about them by the 2024 Olympic Games.
Later tonight, Franklin, along with her cousin Kiley, will enjoy an old Hollywood staple, dinner at the famous Spago resturarnt. They’ll be in good company with movie star Anne Hathaway and the cast of the musical Les Miserables (also starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe). Les Miserables has netted eight Oscar nominations for best picture, actor (Hugh Jackman), supporting actress (Anne Hathaway), production design, costumes, makeup and hairstyling, original song and sound mixing.
So, Franklin and her cousin, Kiley, are in for a night to remember! However, we understand, Colorado Stars coach Todd Schmitz is keeping Franklin on her regiment. In between the Hollywood festivities she’ll be hammering out a full two hour practice.
