Missouri State Women To Host Arkansas On Saturday

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State swimming & diving returns to Hammons Student Center Pool as it welcomes the Arkansas women’s swimming & diving team for a meet on Saturday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. CT. The MSU men will be competing in an intrasquad meet. Live scoring can be found on Meet Mobile.

Bears Splashes (Women)

  • Missouri State women’s swimming & diving has split its two meets so far this season. The Bears opened up the year with a 170-130 win over Lindenwood on October 6. The following week, the women lost to MVC-opponent Southern Illinois 214-139.
  • Two Bears, seniors Jordan Wenner and Samantha Roemer, lead the team with three individual wins this season. Wenner owns two victories in the 50-yard free with her best time being a 24.26 time against Southern Illinois. Roemer has two wins in the 100-yard butterfly and holds a best time of 55.74 also against the Salukis.
  • Wenner also holds the fastest team time this season in the 100-yard freestyle (52.07) in a win against Southern Illinois. Roemer has the top time in the 200-yard IM (2:07.46) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.74).
  • The large freshmen class has had a strong early showing. Lindsey Hervey (10:25.87) and Claire Culberson (10:34.18) built off of winning performances against Lindenwood by finishing first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle respectively. The two have the top four team times in the 1,00-yard freestyle this season.
  • Hervey also owns the fastest team time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.34) that she earned against Southern Illinois.
  • Freshman diver Maggie Arceneaux has one win in both the 1-meter (224.7) and 3-meter (234.65) dives against Lindenwood.

Bears Splashes (Men)

  • Missouri State men’s swimming & diving has also split its two meets so far this season. After losing a tight one against Lindenwood 153-147, the Bears bounced back with a resounding 209.5-140.5 victory over Southern Illinois, a fellow Mid-American Conference competitor.
  • Senior Robert Hill leads all Bears with five individual wins in 2023. The Kansas City native has two wins in the 200-yard backstroke and holds the top two team times in the event (1:50.20 and 1:51.28). He also has the top Bear times in the 100-yard backstroke (49.22 and 49.61).
  • Three other Bears have three individual wins so far this season. Two of senior AJ Huskey’s wins have been in the 200-yard butterfly with his other win in the 400-yard IM against Southern Illinois. Husky holds the top team times in both events.
  • Senior Dylan Moffatt has three individual wins, all coming in distance freestyle events. He has two 500-yard freestyle wins and holds the top team times in that event and the 1,000-yard freestyle.
  • Junior Reese Hodgins has led the way in the freestyle sprints with three wins across the 100- and 200-yard freestyles, topping the team scorecard in both events.
  • Sophomore Storm Opdahl holds a win in the 3-meter dive against Southern Illinois (308.10). He also finished second in the 1-meter dive (271.95) to hold the best scores for the Bears in both events.

Scouting the Razorbacks

  • Arkansas Swimming & Dining consists of a women’s team that is 3-1 on the season with wins against Kentucky, LSU and MVC-affiliated Little Rock. The Razorbacks suffered their first loss of the season last weekend against Stanford.
  • Senior Isabella Cothern holds the top SEC time in the 50-yard freestyle (22.23). The current Hammons Student Center Pool record is 22.85 earned by former Bear Anna Miller in 2021. Cothern also holds the second-fastest SEC time in the 100-yard freestyle (49.03). Miller holds the HSC Pool record at 49.68.
  • Sophomore Madison Hartley holds the fifth-fastest SEC time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.51). If Hartley were to replicate that time, she would beat the current HSC Pool record held by University of Missouri’s Allison Bloebaum by over three seconds.
  • Alessia Ferraguti holds the fastest 200-yard breaststroke time in the SEC this season (2:10.25). University of Missouri swimmer Abby Duncan owns the HSC Pool record at 2:11.94. Ferraguti also holds the second-fastest SEC time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.27). The HSC Pool record is held by former Bear Yuliya Zubina with a time of 1:02.03.
