Milwaukee Earns Dominant Senior Day Sweep of Green Bay

MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving team returned to action on Saturday, hosting Green Bay for “Senior Day”. The Panthers sent their seniors out right in their final home meet, with a comfortable 235.5-64 win.

“The senior meet is always a special one” said head coach Kyle Clements. “Starting the meet recognizing and acknowledging all those men and women that have worked so hard over the past years makes this one of my favorite meets.”

Milwaukee absolutely dominated the meet, winning all 16 events held with 10 different athletes grabbing first-place finishes.

“Once we got racing the fast swims started coming.” Clements continued.

Three Panthers had multiple top finishes, including Erika Thomas, who won the first individual event of the day finishing the 1000 freestyle in 10:35.05. She followed that up in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 58.89 to cruise into the winner’s circle.

Janelle Schulz had a multi-win day as well, first claiming the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:55.44), before closing her day in the 200 individual medley with a winning time of 2:09.86.

Gabrielle LePine continued her dominance in the 100 breaststroke, reaching the finish in 1:02.63, before finishing with a first-place in the 100 freestyle (52.30).

Milwaukee saw more success in the backstroke events with Mara Freeman (58.09) and Skylar Ruggles (58.40) taking the top two spots in the 100. The two then flipped in the 200 with Ruggles in first at 2:04.84, and Freeman trailing just behind at 2:09.19.

In the 200 butterfly, Maddi Hayashi outswam the competition to take the event with a time of 2:06.60.

Moving to the 50 freestyle, Carly Plate led the way, being the first to finish with a time of 24.38. Closing out the freestyle events was Lilly Nesson, grabbing the top spot in the 500 freestyle at 5:10.13.

Nadia Switalski was the final winner in the pool for the Panthers, finishing at the top of the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:27.07.

On the diving boards, Julie Rebek had the top score in both the 1m (264.98) and 3m (272.48). While Therese Missiaen claimed second in the 3m (256.73), and Kristina Wittmann took the second spot in the 1m (261.75).

The relays bookended the meet starting with the 200 medley relay with the Panthers coming out on top at 1:45.22. It ended with an 800 freestyle relay win at 7:52.70.

“This part of the season is all about fine-tuning and getting ready for the final meet” Clements concluded. “We have come a long way this season and I look forward to seeing how it all ends.”

MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee men’s swimming & diving team returned to action on Saturday, hosting Green Bay for “Senior Day”. The Panthers made sure their seniors left happy with an impressive win, 200-92.5.

The highlight of the day was a new Klotsche Center record in the 800 freestyle relay, as the team of Jay JensenCharlie HouseJackson Ahrens, and Gunnar Seversen finished in 6:41.82, a 13-second improvement on the previous record.

“Once we got racing the fast swims started coming.” Clements continued.

The wins kept coming as the Panthers got first-place finishes in 12 of the 16 events, with five athletes taking home wins on the day.

Jensen was one senior who made the most of his last home meet, after his part in the 800 relay he cruised to a top finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:44.40.

Seversen also had an outstanding day as an individual, winning the 1000 freestyle (9:25.09), as well as the 500 freestyle (4:40.32) to continue his stellar freshman campaign.

The breaststroke events were dominated by Andrew Jones, who started by finishing the 100 in 57.40, then moving to the 200, where he touched the wall first in 2:09.58.

Moving to the diving boards, Ben Stitgen scored 300.30 on the 3m, before picking up another win on the 1m with a score of 274.95. Will Francis came up in second for both events, scoring a 244.88 on the 3m, and a 261.75 on the 1m.

Milwaukee also picked up a win in the 200 medley relay, reaching the finish in 1:31.59.

“This part of the season is all about fine tuning and getting ready for the final meet” Clements concluded, “we have come a long way this season and I look forward to seeing how it all ends.”

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Green Bay swim and dive teams returned to the pool Saturday afternoon for a meet against in-state foe Milwaukee. GB had a challenging night, falling 235.5-64 on the women’s side and 200-92.5 on the men’s side.

WOMEN’S RECAP
Kaleigh Gale took second place in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:57.36. Freshman Hailey DuVall was just a couple of seconds back of Gale for a fifth-place completion of the same event. In the 100 back, Esther Oswald took third place but finished within two seconds of the top spot. Mia Pagel finished less then one second behind Oswald to take fifth place. Emily Allen was solid in the 50 free, finishing in second place by .08 seconds. Elise Pasholk and Gale completed the 500 free in second and third place, respectively.

MEN’S RECAP
In the 200 free, Chris Aristondo and Sebby Smolecki took second and third place, respectively. Aristondo finished exactly one second behind the first-place finisher, Milwaukee’s Jay Jensen. Freshman Jerett Maalis picked up where he left off before the holdiay break with a first-place completion of the 100 back, finshing with a time of 50.59. He also placed first in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.41. Eli Zimmerman placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.67, less than .30 seconds behind the first-place finisher from the Panthers. Max Kasal narrowly took the top spot in the 100 free, posting a time of 45.67, beating out MKE’s Charlie House (45.75).

Green Bay has a week to prepare for its final home meet of the season, hosting Northern Michigan next Saturday, February 1 PM.
