Michigander Audrey Vermeulen Gives Commitment to Biola University

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Audrey Vermeulen of Portage, Michigan will be leaving the Midwest for the sunny Pacific Coast as she announced her verbal commitment to Division 2 Biola University (CA). Vermeulen will be the lone Wolverine State native on the Biola roster when she hits campus this fall. She just completed her senior year at Portage Central High School (MI) and currently swims club for the Southwest Y Michigan Swimming.

“From the moment I first met the team and stepped on campus, I knew this was the place God was calling me. From the sunny California weather, to beautiful facilities, the campus was nothing short of amazing. The team atmosphere felt so welcoming and I knew this is where I wanted to call home for the next four years. Thank you to all my friends, family, and coaches who have helped me achieve my goals. Go Eagles!!”

Vermeulen is a primary middle-distance and distance freestyler who provides instant impact for coach Ryan Kauth’s Eagles. She projects well inside the Biola program and among the top of the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC). Additionally, Vermeulen adds another puzzle piece to a large recruiting class this year for Biola including Kristina Arcerito, Anna Cohee, Anna Haaksma, Chloe Hartman, Kellynn Hayes, Meredyth Rubie, Liza Parahnevich, Ashley Vitale, and Kolya Vos.

Best Times (SCY):

  • 100 Freestyle: 54.36
  • 200 Freestyle: 1:54.21
  • 500 Freestyle: 5:07.80
  • 1000 Freestyle: 10:36.28
  • 1650 Freestyle: 17:44.42

Vermeulen would have been a major point scorer at conference in the 2018-19 season using lifetime bests including top 3 spots in both the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. Most recently, however, she has seen her most improvement in the middle-distance freestyle: 200 and 500 yards, respectively. Given current times, she also projects to make both the 400- and 800 freestyle relays as a freshman.
