Jessie Blake-West, of Belmont, Massachusetts, has made a verbal commitment to join the Brown University class of 2020*. Blake-West swims for Crimson Aquatics under coach Kyle Schack; she is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 fly.

“I chose Brown because it offers a great balance of both high level academics and swimming. Brown’s team has an awesome group of swimmers and a fantastic coaching staff.  I’m excited for the opportunities that lay ahead. Go Bruno!!”

A senior at Belmont High School, Blake-West is co-captain of the BHS Girls Swimming Team where she holds five school records: Freshman 100 fly; Varsity 100 fly; BHS Pool 100 fly; Varsity 50 free, and Freshman 200 Medley Relay team.

Blake-West has been Massachusetts state champion in the 100 butterfly for each of the last two years. At the 2014 MIAA Fall Division 2 State Meet, she swam fly on Belmont’s winning 200 medley relay, won the 200 IM (2:08.26), won the 100 fly with a new state record (56.28), and anchored the 200 free relay (24.13). The previous year, Blake-West won the 100 fly in 56.87.

Her best times are:

  SCY LCM
50 fly 24.83 28.56
100 fly 54.79 1:03.28
200 fly 2:04.47 2:23.05
50 free 24.10 27.86

Blake-West will be of immediate use to Brown, as her 100 fly would have scored in the B final at 2015 Ivy League Women’s Championships, and her 200 fly would have scored in the C final.

*DISCLAIMER: Blake-West has not yet been officially accepted to Brown. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Brown’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Blake-West is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
