Mallory Mead and Reed Sells have joined the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving coaching staff as volunteer assistants, Head Coach Brian Loeffler announced today.
Mead has served as the head swimming coach at Dulaney Swim Club since the Summer of 2021, directing a group that has been four-time divisional champions and put together three undefeated dual-meet seasons.
Mead, who is the older sister Loyola graduate student Lily Mead, coached 63 finalists in championship postseason competition with Dulaney, and she has earned the AAU Award for Central Maryland Swim League Leadership four times. She has also worked with Loyola Blakefield Aquatic Club where she coached 15 Maryland state qualifiers.
She graduated from Oklahoma Christian University in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management, and she earned her Master’s of Athletic Leadership from Rider University in 2024. She compiled a 4.0 grade-point average in both programs.
At Oklahoma Christian, she was the school-record holder in both the 1,650 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay, and she earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times in addition to being named the Sports Management Student of the Year twice.
“I am honored to be joining Loyola’s swimming and diving team this fall, and I’m eager to help the student-athletes achieve their academic and athletic goals while working alongside an amazing coaching staff,” Mead said. “I’m so grateful to Coach Loeffler for providing me with this opportunity as I start my college coaching career.”
Sells comes to Loyola after graduating from nearby Towson University in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in sports management and a minor in business administration.
He was a finalist all four years of his career for the Tigers at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, finishing as high as fifth during his time.
This summer, he was a swim coach at Hillendale Country Club where he organized all group practices and meets for the team. He will also serve as a coach for the Eagle Swim Team.
Sells has interned with both the Tiger Athletic Fund at Towson University and at Soccer Shots in Laurel, Maryland.
“I am very honored to join the coaching staff of Loyola this fall,” Sells said. It is a privilege to be a part of such a respected and knowledgeable group of coaches. Thank you to Coach Loeffler for giving me this amazing opportunity to learn.”
