Sandpipers’ Luke Ellis swam a gutsy race in the 1,650, staying with Rex Maurer for the first 1,000 and then making his move, slowly putting distance between himself and Maurer until his lead was insurmountable. He touched at 14:49.79, his first time under 15 minutes. Ellis explains how his training prepared him for this swim, specifically training with teammates like Ilya Kharun, Bella Sims, Katie Grimes, and Claire Weinstein.
There is some serious secret sauce happening at this program. The swimmers are all smiles and happy to take on bonkers schedules. The boys and girls like training together and respect each others’ success. They have little fear of discomfort, uncertainty or failure. Really excited to watch them over the next couple cycles.
Interesting that Kharun went to short course worlds while sims/Weinstein/grimes went to juniors. Selfishly I wish he did juniors, probably would’ve dropped some crazy swims
he’ll prolly set a new NAG in the fiddy free.
fiddy free at sectionals
Hopefully the fiddy free will go well
This guy is a beast. I wanna see him get the 15-16 nag in this.
