Logan Norrid Commits to Rhode Island for 2023 with Team Leading Times

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

A five-event school record holder at Owatonna High School in Owatonna, Minnesota, Logan Norrid has announced her decision to swim for the University of Rhode Island following her graduation this spring.

“I chose the University of Rhode Island because they had everything I was looking for in a school academically, offering all of the majors and minors I’ve been looking into along with many more. From the moment I stepped on campus the first time I had that moment when I knew this could be a place I could see myself go to. Not only did I love the school but the coaches were so nice, yet they pushed their athletes to their full potential in and out of the pool.”

This March, Norrid reset nearly all of her lifetime best times while competing at the Minnesota Senior State Championships. She made the podium in both breaststroke races, taking 3rd in the 100 (1:04.90) and 2nd in the 200 (2:21.92). Both of those performances were lifetime bests.

Norrid has also seen success in the long course pool, finishing in the A-final of both breaststroke races at the Minnesota Senior Long Course Championships last summer. Her top finish came in the 200 breast where she took silver in 2:44.59. She also touched in a lifetime best of 1:16.10 in the 100 breast to take 5th.

  • 200 free – 2:00.16
  • 100 breast – 1:04.90
  • 200 breast – 2:21.92
  • 100 fly – 57.09
  • 200 fly – 2:04.77
  • 200 IM – 2:08.86
  • 400 IM – 4:41.59

Norrid is a versatile swimmer who will boost Rhode Island across multiple events when she joins the roster this fall. Last season, her lifetime best in the 200 fly would have been the team’s fastest while her times in the breaststroke and IM events would have ranked among the best on the team.

Last season, Rhode Island finished 11th out of 11 teams at the 2023 Atlantic-10 Swimming and Diving Conference Championships. The program only had two swimmers score individual points, with sophomore Hannah Benavides leading the way with four. Benavides took 16th in the 100 breast and 14th in the 200 breast.

The 2022-2023 season was Rhode Island’s first season under the direction of head coach Lilli Falconer Deering. Falconer Deering, an alumnus of the program herself, was interim head coach in 2021-2022 before taking the program over in March of 2022.

Norrid will arrive on campus already within striking distance of the 200 IM record that Falconer Deering set in 2011. The record currently stands at 2:01.26.
