LemonAid Top 10 College Rankings (By Division)

by SwimSwam 14

February 10th, 2016 College, Industry

A surge of activity happened within the LemonAid App after the Club and High School Coach’s version was released last week in the App Store and GooglePlay. Hundreds of new athletes, coaches, and club & high school teams joined LemonAid in just a few days, and they were active.

Digging deeper into the database, some metrics and trends have stuck out. Here are some that we found interesting and want to share with you:

1. There have been over 31,000 swipes between athletes and coaches since releasing LemonAid last fall. That’s some serious visibility for everyone involved.

2. 97.5% of US Colleges with swimming programs have received right-swipes from athletes in LemonAid. That means nearly every college has at least one high school athlete wanting to swim for them.

3. We compiled the Top 10 rankings of schools in LemonAid (by division). These rankings are based on the number of right-swipes they have received so far. We will periodically update this list over time, and it can be found on our website.

LemonAid: Co-Created By Nate Boyle and Eric Knight, LemonAid was born out of Eric’s personal experience with NCAA athletic recruiting…or lack thereof. He was never recruited. Visibility for a high school athlete is hard to come by, yet it’s critical to being noticed and recruited. LemonAid gives every athlete visibility, and shows them every college with their sport. Choosing a college is a huge decision…shouldn’t it be an informed one?

What % of kids who swipe right on a school actually have a shot to swim there? And…if you’re an elite high school athlete…are you using this app to get noticed or are you swimming at Juniors and Seniors? In other words…who is the user? 5:30 500 yard freestyler or 4:50 500 yard freestylers?

Fair question, and of course the answer depends. While we originally created the app for athletes and schools of all levels (especially the lemons), there are some downright studs using LemonAid, and several dozen of the top programs are using it too. The app appropriates your times and recommends schools accordingly, while taking other factors into account. An athlete still sees all schools with swimming, which is a great way to see all their options. Even the best athletes want to know where they’re wanted.

Who did UNC pay to finally get on a top ten swim list?

Someone who has access to Eddie, please tell him he is not getting enough right-swipes on LemonAid. Would love to hear his response.

Nah, it would be more like this: “Right-Swipes? Sure, but you have to catch water high first, or it will not work. LemonAid? Is that legal? I will ask Kris and if legal we can use it. I just learned that dolphin kicking was legal few years ago, so I am getting used to learning at my age. Kris has been drinking cool aid for years.”

Ed has been told, but as I was not the one who did the telling, it’s not my place to relay what he said.

Displaced Wolverine – while this is a press release for LemonAid, which we editorially don’t take responsibility for, notice the explanation – it’s based on right swipes by users on the app.

So this is basically a popularity contest…

We were surprised by that too. It’s based purely on how many people swiped right on the school. They would also have more visibility if they were actively using the App, so it’s hard to say why they didn’t make the top 10. When the next version of LemonAid is released, fans can rank schools as well, so I’m guessing these stats will change over time.

As I understand it, this is not a ranking of the “best” teams; it is a ranking of the teams that high school athletes have shown the most interest in being recruited by. But you’d have to actually read the article to pick up on that.

i think Texas will suffer on this app because most kids looking for a college to swim at are not going to look at the school that is far and away the leader. 99.999999% of HS swimmers have no chance to swim at Texas. So they won’t get as many ‘swipes’.
