Lassiter Girls, John Creek Boys Continue Streak Of State Titles At Georgia 5A Meet

There weren’t any new queens or kings of Georgia 5A swimming in the first week of February.

On the contrary, the Lassiter girls and Johns Creek boys only seemed to strengthen their status as the state’s gold standard.

The Lassiter girls won their sixth straight title, while the Johns Creek boys won their fifth in a row and sixth since 2019.

GIRLS’ RECAP

Lassiter’s “Big 3” of senior Kate Bradley, Finnly Jollands and Rose Jones were at it again after combining for four individual titles in 2024.

Bradley (Arkansas signee) repeated as champion in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 54.98, and then also defended her title in the 500 freestyle with a personal best time of 4:55.49.

Jollands (Minnesota signee) won the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 23.38, and then repeated as champion in the 100 backstroke with a personal best time of 54.23.

The two also were members of Lassiter’s winning teams in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Ashlyn Loftin and Alie Gale were also on the winning 200 medley relay team for Lassiter.

Jones (Wyoming signee) was also a member of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team and won the 100 freestyle in a personal best time of 51.35.

Maggie O’Shaughnessy was the other member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

The 200 freestyle relay was won by Riverwood’s team of Caroline Kittrell, Skyelar Richards, Katie Kessell and Kennsingtyn Robinson in a time of 1:36.73.

Other individual winners were:

  • Heba Fouitah. The freshman from Evans Lakeside won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:48.96.
  • Julia Pou. The junior from Johns Creek and Georgia Tech commit won the 200 IM in a time of 2:03.73.
  • Alyssa Pace. The freshman from Jackson County accumulated 462.50 points to win diving.
  • Ashlyn Loftin. The junior from Lassiter won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:04.48.

BOYS’ RECAP

Dunwoody senior Luke Sandberg (Georgia signee) made it a 3-peat in the 200 freestyle, winning with a time of 1:38.00.

Sandberg also won the 100 freestyle in a time of 44.33 and led off for Dunwoody’s winning team in the 200 freestyle relay.

Andrew Halligan, Graham Chang, and Luke Amerson were the other members of a team that finished with a time of 1:24.90.

The other individual standout was Kennesaw Mountain junior Isaiah Tucker, who repeated as champion in the 100 butterfly in a personal best time of 47.52, and then won the 100 backstroke in a personal best time of 48.21.

Johns Creek’s team of Tianyu Cui, Jaxon Lou, Bryce Debowsky and Paul Wajnberg won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.86, while Johns Creek’s quartet of Wajnberg, Lou Alexander,  Cui and Lou won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:07.01.

Other individual winners were:

  • Ian Combs. The Chamblee senior and Penn State signee won the 200 IM in a time of 1:48.45.
  • Gavin Halusic. A sophomore for Lassiter, he won the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 20.63.
  • RJ Snyder. The senior from Woodward Academy won the diving event with 698.70 points.
  • Logan Calhoun. The Chattahoochee senior and Cal Poly signee won the 500 free in a time of 4:28.60.
  • Justin Mikels. A senior from Milton, he won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 55.0.
