BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Elijah Lanfear won three events and four other Bearcats won a pair of individual events as Binghamton swept a dual meet at Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the Burt Fickenger Center. The men turned in a 198-98 win while the women took a 191-108 decision.
“I thought we did a great job of competing today and working on some details to be better in a few weeks.” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “A long travel day and the consistent training is catching up with up but overall I think we did a solid job working through that and still competing at a high level.”
Lanfear, who now has 11 individual victories so far this season, captured the men’s 100 back (51.04), 100 free (45.88) and 100 fly (49.82). He was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team that included freshman Tyler Schultz, sophomore Cullin Cole and senior Max Kaback and clocked a time of 1:33.08.
The men’s other double winner was freshman Evan Peters, who swept the 200 free (1:43.93) and 500 free (4:43.69). He also swam on the winning 200 free relay team that included junior Liam Preston and freshmen Ryaan Alshami and William Deutmeyer. The Bearcat quartet clocked a time of 1:25.07.
On the women’s side, Binghamton posted its other three double-event winners. Senior Lauren Kuzma swept the 100 breast (1:06.71) and 200 breast (2:24.05), junior Maria Pignatelli took top honors in the 50 free (26.64) and 100 free (52.92) while junior Elizabeth Tirado won both the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 239.78 and 234.98 respectively.
Kuzma and Pignatelli also swam on the first-place 200 medley team, which also included freshman Grace Vogt and sophomore Haley Nowak and finished with a time of 1:47.74.
Pignatelli was also on the winning 200 free relay team, which included junior Celia Webster, sophomore Ava Olsian and freshman Leonor Coelho. That Binghamton quartet recorded a first-place time of 1:40.89.
Other individual winners on the women’s side include Nowak in the 200 fly (2:11.27), freshman Natalie Kassirer in the 1000 free (10:51.56), and fellow freshman Maichina Gennarelli in the 500 free (5:17.22).
The rest of the individual event winners on the men’s side were Preston in the 50 free (21.52), sophomore Harrison Lambert in the 1,000 free (9:43.78), freshman Jacob Koclanis in the one-meter diving event (260.63), freshman Amir Sadykov in the 200 breast (2:07.85) and sophomore Dylan Norby in the three-meter diving competition (287.33).
Binghamton returns home and will host Cornell on Friday at 5 p.m.

Sophomore SaraJo Gardner and freshman Daphne Mead swept their individual races, bringing home five first-place finishes as Canisius fell to Binghamton in collegiate swimming and diving action at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y., Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats took the victory over the Golden Griffins on both men’s and women’s sides of the meet, earning a 198-98 win for the men and a 198-108 victory in the women’s event.
For the second straight meet, Mead took first in all three of her individual events, winning the 200 free (1:56.57), 100 butterfly (58.66) and 100 IM (59.89). Mead’s time’s this season rank highly among other MAAC swimmers, holding top-five times in the 100 and 200 backstroke and the fastest time in the 200 IM (2:07.49).
Sophomore Evie Leighton took second in both the women’s individual freestyle events with times of 1:57.50 in the 200 and 55.21 in the 100 freestyle. Leighton holds the second fastest time in the MAAC in the 200 freestyle (1:55.99)
Gardner took first in both the 100 back (59.91) and 200 back (2:09.36). She was followed closely by senior Brenna McLaughlin, who finished second in both 100 (1:00.26) and 200 (2:10.28) backstroke.
On the men’s side, sophomore Elliot Somers finished first in the 200 backstroke (1:53.27) and narrowly missed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time 51.19 to take second. Senior Sam Vidal similarly took first in the 100 breaststroke (58.23) and took a slim second in the 200 breast (2:08.06).
Senior Bronson Benes earned a first place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:55.66) but was again narrowly edged out of first in the 100 butterfly, taking second with a time of 51.18.

The Griffs make their annual trip to Cleveland State for the Magnus Invitational. The meet will feature numerous collegiate swimming programs and be held through Nov. 21-23.
