PHILADELPHIA – Men’s swimming & diving defeated NJIT on Saturday, 183-116, as part of a tri-meet that also included Stony Brook’s women’s team. Nine first-place finishes headlined the Explorers dominance on the day.
MEET NOTES
- Three Explorers tallied multiple top finishes against the Highlanders: sophomore Zachary Wolbert and freshmen Trenton Burr and Sam Henninger.
- Wolbert touched first in the 100 Fly with a time of 51.51 and clocking 1:53.39 in the 200 Fly.
- It was a dynamic day for some freshmen. Burr beat everyone in the 100 Back (52.37) and 200 Back (1:58.43), while Henninger swept the field in the 1-meter (303.08) and 3-meter (300.45).
- With his results, Henninger qualified for the NCAA Regional Diving Championships in the 1-meter dive. The rookie already qualified in the 3-meter earlier this season.
- Other individual top times came via senior Norm Gregory in the 50 Free (21.76), junior Daniel Johnson in the 100 Free (46.86) and freshman Cole Dyson (4:48.57)
- The Explorers also got second-place results from junior Gustov Swedenborg (twice), senior Marcus Forsgren (twice), sophomore Steven Stasolla (twice), junior Paolo Sunyak, senior Christoff Ras, Johnson and Gregory.
- Freshman watch: in addition to first-place results from Henninger, Burr and Dyson, the Explorers also received solid results from Sebastian Aguirre (third in the 100 Fly and 200 Fly), Alex Kuriawa (third in the 100 Back) and Alec Fatta (third in the 200 IM).
- In a collective effort, the Blue & Gold touched first in the 200 IM Relay with a time of 1:26.00 and the 400 Medley Relay, clocking in at 3:27.61.

- The three-week home stretch concludes when La Salle hosts Big 5 rivals Villanova on November 26th. Action starts at 2 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA — Despite four Highlanders combining for five individual victories, The NJIT men’s swimming and diving lost a 183 -116 road meet to the La Salle Explorers Saturday afternoon.
“I am very happy with the way the men stepped and raced against a very good La Salle team. We had contributions across the board today. It was good to finally get up and race against someone other than our own team. I am really looking forward to see how we improve upon this performance next week against another tough Atlantic-10 team at Fordham,” Highlander head coach Ron Farina said after the meet.
Nicholas Lyons led the way for NJIT with a pair of breaststroke victories in the 100 and 200 races. Alon Lerner picked up the Highlanders’ lone win by a freshman after pacing the field in the 1000 Free while teammate and fellow newcomer Jake Nelms ended the race in third place. Joshua Franco used a strong end of his 200 Free race to tally another NJIT triumph and Edward Madrigal wrapped up NJIT’s winning efforts with his victory in the 200 IM.

OTHER NOTES
- NJIT competed in the diving portion of the meet with its full lineup of divers – Cole Becker, Itay Bachar, and Max Hafen – for the first time this season. Becker led NJIT with third place showings in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives.
- Mattheau Bonner was a part of four runner-up performances – two individually (200 Fly, 100 Fly) and two in relays (200 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay).

NJIT will return to action next Friday, November 22 with another road meet against Fordham in New York City.
