Koutsouveli, Schenk Named AAC Swimmers of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s swimming and diving honors for the week ending Jan. 31.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Lucas Schenke • Fr. • SMU • Hamburg, Germany
Schenke produced two individual wins and was a member of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team against Texas A&M on Friday. The freshman posted an NCAA top-50 time and a career-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle, covering distance in 9:15.33. In the 500-yard freestyle, Schenke defeated the field with a top time of 4:31.59. The native of Germany swam the second leg on the 400 freestyle relay team that won with a finishing time of 3:01.58.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Klein • So. • SMU • Southlake, Texas
Klein set the SMU 1-meter school record with a score of 407.25 in a dual meet with Texas A&M. The sophomore now holds the program record in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Klein followed up his record performance with a runner-up finish in the 3-meter (384.61 points).

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Eleanna Koutsouveli • Fr. • Houston • Athens, Greece
Koutsouveli placed second overall in two individual events against Rice, Tulane and No. 20 LSU in Houston over the weekend. The Athens, Greece, native swam a personal best in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.60. Koutsouveli touched the wall with a second-place time of 55.50 in the 100-yard backstroke.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK
Monica Marcello • Fr. • UConn • Middletown, Conn.
Marcello swept the diving events over the weekend in a 160-121 defeat of Dartmouth at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. The freshman set a pool record in the 1-meter with 307.64 points. Marcello claimed the top spot in the 3-meter event with a final score of 293.62.
