Koch Takes Down German Record in 100 Breast –Again– at Euro SC Champs

2015 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE WINGATE INSTITUTE IN NETANYA, ISRAEL

After breaking the championship record with his 200 breaststroke title on Thursday, Germany’s Marco Koch was back on Saturday with a twin victory in the 100 breast.

The win in the shorter distance was doubly sweet, as Koch not only lowered his own national record but also upset the reigning long course world record-holder in the distance, Great Britain’s Adam Peaty. Koch clocked a 56.78 in the final, his first time under 57 seconds; in doing so he broke his own German national record of 57.02 which he had set in the semi-final. Peaty was second with 56.96, while Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania was third in a time of 57.02

The top four finishers, including Fabio Scozzoli of Italy (57.14) all jumped to the top of the world leaderboard for the SCM season:
