At just 19 years old, Ledecky will be swimming in her 2nd Olympics, having won gold in the 800 meter freestyle at the London Olympics. Though she’s made the team before, Ledecky is just as excited this time around, partially due to the excitement the first time Olympians bring.
Ledecky is currently the World Record holder in the women’s 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyles, and has been in a league of her own in the distance events since London. In Rio, she’ll get a chance to go after her records in the 400 and 800, while adding some more Olympic hardware to her list of accomplishments. Ledecky will also swim the women’s 200 free and the 4×200 free relay, with the possibility of being added to the 4×100 free relay if the coaches choose to do so.
In Rio, Ledecky will swim her first race on Sunday, August 7th in the women’s 400 meter freestyle.
