The Kansas University women won their 40th consecutive event inside the Robinson Natatorium yesterday, 15 of which came from yesterday’s dual versus fellow Big 12 program the University of Nebraska Omaha. The Jayhawks won every event, scoring 187 points to the Mavericks’ 88.
The Jayhawk women posted wins in both the 200 medley and the 200 free relays. The team of Yulduz Kuchkarova, Bryce Hinde, Pia Pavlic, and Haley Bishop clocked 1:44.70 in the 200 medley relay, and Bishop, Breonna Barker, Leah Pfitzer, and Kuchkarova teamed up for a 1:37.06 in the 200 free relay.
Hinde, one of the team’s four seniors recognized at the meet, grabbed a pair of victories in the 50 breast (30.32) and the 100 breast (1:06.40). Fellow senior Haley Molden won the 200 freestyle in 1:53.42.
“We have had a lot of success at home, but that doesn’t come without a lot of hard work,” Hinde told KUAthletics.com. “This team is really good this year, it’s slowly every year gotten a lot better and so it’s been amazing to end this way as a senior. It’s definitely bittersweet, I can’t believe it’s here and gone already. I just love KU.”
Bishop, besides contributing to a pair of relay wins, took a pair of individual victories. She won the 50 fly in 25.81 and the 100 fly in 56.73.
“Honestly, I have had the greatest home season and I owe a lot of that to the seniors,” Bishop told KUAthletics.com. “They’re always so energetic and uplifting. They have made my first season at KU so fun. I think that’s part of the reason I have swam so well, because they have made swimming fun again.”
Barker, another freshman, swept the sprint free events with 24.37 in the 50 free and 52.35 in the 100 free. Pavlic took a pair of wins in the 100 back (56.27) and the 100 IM (58.90).
Other wins came from Jayhawks Kuchkarova (50 back: 25.76), Nadia Khechfe (3 meter dive 266.50), Libby Walker (500 free: 5:04.09), Graylyn Jones (1 meter dive 269.75).
The Mavs picked up a handful of runner-up finishes including Natalie Renshaw‘s 50 free (24.47) and 100 free (1:00.48), Kirsten Kracke‘s 100 back (1:02.79), Jamie Dhabalt‘s 100 breast (1:11.28), Morgan Stepp‘s 500 free (5:11.14), Isabelle Robuck‘s 50 fly (27.76), and Miranda Knipfer‘s 1 meter dive (212.20).
