LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas swimming and diving hosted South Dakota in a packed Robinson Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Coyotes 250-99.

Kansas dominated in Saturday’s session, sweeping all nine events and winning 18-of-19 events for the weekend, resulting in a 250-99 win over the South Dakota Coyotes.

Before the action began, Kansas celebrated its eight seniors and equipment manager Riley Sirimongkhon-Dyck for their invaluable contributions to the program. Honored in Saturday’s ceremony were seniors Addi BarnesBrigid GwidtEllie HoweClaire HyattEleni KotzamanisKarla LessingMaggie Moore and Lezli Sisung.

Saturday’s competition opened with an impressive win by Kansas in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Hyatt, Howe, Isabelle Satterlee and Sophie Wallace touched the wall first in 1:34.58. Kansas kept the energy high, with Maya Lambert dominating the 400-yard individual medley and securing another first-place finish for the Jayhawks with a time of 4:27.52.

The 100-yard freestyle followed as Caroline Blake earned a first-place finish after racing a time of 52.36. Freshman Izzy Porter came in second after clocking a 53.02.

A Jayhawk sweep followed in the 200-yard backstroke, led by a first-place finish from Sisung with a time of 1:59.71. Bradie Ward (2:03.69) followed in second while Kotzamanis (2:04.47) took third.

Lydia Lafferty then took home the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.43. Freshman Gabi Dyer clocked a time of 4:59.52 to take first in the 500-yard freestyle, clearing second place by more than 7.5 seconds.

Ryan Johnston was next at the top of the podium for Kansas, clocking a time of 2:18.81 to win the 200-yard breaststroke.

The afternoon was capped off with the 400-yard freestyle relay, which resulted in a Kansas win and a complete sweep of the nine possible events on Saturday. The relay team of Blake, Kotzamanis, Hailey Farrell and Mia Waldron raced a time of (3:27.04) for the win.

ON THE BOARDS
Like the 3M event, the Jayhawks swept the top three spots of the 1M Diving event led by Shiyun Lai with 325.28 points. Lize van Leeuwen followed in second with 260.03 points, and Grace Zifcak came in third with 240.83 points.

Lai’s 325.28 points is the fourth-highest score in the 1M event (six dives) in Kansas school history.

LAWERENCE, Kansas – South Dakota swimming and diving teams took part in a double dual on Friday and Saturday inside the Robinson Natatorium on the University of Kansas campus.

The Coyote men earned a 208-139 win over Missouri S&T over the two-day meet compiling 12 golds, eight silvers and 14 bronze performances in the process. The women’s team fell to Kansas by a final tally of 250-99 and combined for 17 top three finishes over the two-days.

Alex Parkinson and Charlie Matthews came away as double gold medal winners over the two days for South Dakota while Ethan LaBounty and Will Barth had four top three performances apiece.

Parkinson, a freshman, won the 500 free on Saturday in 4:37.82, just ahead of teammate Barth, who clocked 4:38.66. Parkinson, who won the 1000 free on Friday, also contributed to a third-place 800 free relay quartet.

Matthews, a sophomore, swept both diving events, scoring 246.45 on the three-meter board and 253.88 on the one-meter board.

South Dakota also received individual victories from Jack BerdahlNick Rounds, LaBounty, Barth and Xander Taylor along with Emily DiProspero. The men’s team also won the 800 free relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

Rounds, a freshman from West Des Moines, Iowa, touched the wall in 21.11 in the 50 free to make it two-for-two in winning the short sprint race this season.

LaBounty, a freshman from Lakeville, Minnesota, won the 200 IM in 1:56.64 while also finishing second in the 200 breast (2:08.85) and third in the 100 breast (58.36).

Barth, a freshman from Saint Paul, Minnesota, moved into the Coyote Top Ten at ninth all-time in the 200 fly with his time of 1:54.02 while he also finished second in the 500 free in 4:38.66 and third as a member of the 800 free relay.

Berdahl, a senior, won the 100 breast in 57.57 and swam on the runner-up 200 medley relay that opened the meet, joining Adam Fisher, Carlson and Rounds in clocking 1:32.83.

Taylor, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colorado, claimed the 200 back in 1:53.57.

The quartet of James SchreiberDavid MayerMatthew Sorbe and Jacob Carlson won the 800 free relay in 6:59.22 while the foursome of Carlson, Schreiber, Rounds and Mayer closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay in 3:06.22.

DiProspero, from Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, swam the 1000 free in 10:29.08 to earn her second victory of the season. Her time moved her into the Coyote Top Ten charts at third all-time and up to third-fastest in the Summit League this season. She also placed second in the 500 free in 5:07.29.

Gabbie Ahrendt placed second in the 200 IM, third in the 100 back and third in the 100 free and swam on a runner-up 400 free relay.

Runner-up performances came from Sara Mayer (100 fly), Taylor Buhr (200 breast), Hailey Eriksen (one-meter dive) along with the 800 free relay and 400 free relay.

South Dakota will compete in the two-day Huskie Extravaganza in Rochester, Minnesota next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2.
