Position Title: USA Swimming Club Team Head Coach

Club: Indiana Swim Club (ISC)

Location: Bloomington and Martinsville, IN

Reports To: Board of Directors

Indiana Swim Club (ISC) is a year-round USA Swimming competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. ISC was originally founded in 1955 as Bloomington Swim Club by the legendary Dr. James E. “Doc” Counsilman as a competitive swimming program for children ages 5-21. Our mission is to encourage youth in the Bloomington and Martinsville areas to experience the sport of swimming in a safe and supportive environment that fosters team cohesion, discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. We are a non-profit team run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Club is a member of USA Swimming and Indiana Swimming, Inc. ISC is sponsored by Speedo.

Desired Qualities: The ideal candidate is a strong culture-builder, knowledgeable, and demonstrates strong communication and leadership skills. The Head Coach oversees all aspects of our competitive swim program including directing coaching responsibilities. It is expected that the Head Coach will foster positive relationships, mentor as appropriate, and communicate and collaborate well with external and internal constituents.

Head Coach Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Coaching Duties
  • Oversee all levels/age groups, design and oversee training programs
  • Give instruction and constructive feedback on training and technique for swimmers of all abilities
  • Oversee seasonal progression of athletes, set goals with swimmers and monitor phases of development with individual swimmers
  1. Club Culture and Growth
  • Develop a long-term vision for the growth of the club
  • Recruit, hire, schedule, train, supervise & regularly meet with, develop, and evaluate coaching staff
  • Develop community relationships and recruit new swimmers
  • Create an educational, safe, and inviting experience for all participants
  1. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Plan each season’s meet and practice schedules consistent with the needs of the team, individual training groups, athletes and their families
  • Develop and assign staff schedules for all events, swim meets, and practices
  • Conduct regular meetings with staff and organize in-service training

Experience:

  • 3-5 years Coaching experience preferred (minimum of 3 years required)
