Duties and Responsibilities (including special qualifications, requirements, and work schedule):

Responsibilities: The graduate assistant will assist with workout planning and implementation for the pool, dry land, and supervising strength and conditioning. They will also assist with coaching at all practices, out of season practices (organizing and facilitating a dry-land conditioning program,) assist with swim meet operations (including pre-meet set up of Hy-tek, promotions, facility set up, day operations, take down, special events following meet, and senior recognition.) Implementing and overseeing the study table procedures, assisting in pool scheduling and facilitate with other sports.  They will assist with all aspects of recruiting and travel planning (Hotels, meals, meet needs, etc.), coach all meets- assist with coaching, splits, videos, etc. The graduate assistant will also participate in fundraising events (Brown County Fair, NSU Triathlon, swim clinics, and others) and assist with NSU functions and activities (concessions, split pots, day of champions, etc.) and other duties as assigned.

Requirements: competitive swimming and/or diving background is preferred, swim and/or dive coach experience preferred, knowledge in dry-land strength and conditioning programs, knowledge in injury prevention, knowledge in stroke analysis and swimming technique, good organizational skills, high energy and enthusiastic personality, ability to work independently and under supervision, ability to inter-relate with student athletes, and an understanding of media relations and sports promotions.

Work Schedule: Varied hours based on practice schedules- strength and conditioning morning hours, swim practices including dry land and pool morning and evening hours- but hours vary based on swimming program schedule and the GA’s class schedule.

Schedule varies by season. Some evening and weekend work required. Average week is 20 hours

Goals and Objectives and/or Learning Outcomes for the Graduate Assistant:

The GA will be provided and gain a wide scope of experience in collegiate athletics. The position will provide the GA with overall understanding of program planning, operations, and facilitation. The GA will be knowledgeable in NCAA operations, rules, and regulations. This position will provide the student with understanding of the importance of high academic achievement along with athletic achievement.

Compensation:

Graduate assistants receive tuition reduction and stipend.

Please Note:

Graduate Assistants MUST hold a cumulative 2.75 GPA for acceptance into a master’s program, and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA throughout their program.
