The City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department seeks an exceptional professional to fill the newly created full-time position of “Aquatics Manager.” The Aquatics Manager works under the direction of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Recreation Superintendent and performs professional supervisory skills necessary to direct the overall operation of the Kettering Recreation Complex aquatic facilities, programs and staff for the maximum safety and benefit of the community at large. The Aquatics Manager will have direct oversight of indoor pool, spa, and water park including safety, scheduling, maintenance, budget, staffing, and a comprehensive lesson and water fitness program serving the leisure needs of all ages and ability levels in the community. The position ensures that aquatic facilities, programs, services and events are adequately planned for the maximum enjoyment, safety, and benefit of the community. Exercises initiative and professional judgment in the performance of duties. Provides direct supervision of the full-time Aquatics Supervisor and all associated programs. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with the Recreation and Facility staff.
The Aquatics Manager will have a thorough knowledge of the objectives and principles of public recreation, including demonstrated expertise in aquatics facility and program operations as well as the capacity to maintain records, develop reports and present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills are essential. Assesses aquatic needs of citizens and community by keeping up to-date on community interests and trends of the future and developing programs, services, and events in accordance with data and survey findings. Experience in budget preparation and management of computer applications is required.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all department staff, peers, co-workers and other City staff, volunteers, community organizations and the general public. Must be available for some evening, night, weekend and some holidays as needed to assure successful operation of the Kettering Recreation Complex.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree in Parks and Recreation or Sports Management is preferred, or equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must obtain and maintain current ARC LGI and CPO or AFO certification. Master’s degree, CPRP, LGIT, and WSIT desirable. Considerable experience managing indoor and outdoor aquatics facilities, associated lessons programs and full-time personnel is preferred.
COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is up to $93,912; excellent benefits. Entry rate is contingent on candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge and abilities. Some additional duties for the Head Age Group Swim Coach include (but are not limited to):

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead coach for developmental pre-team. Conduct group practices and teach competitive swimming techniques to athletes of a wide range of ages and abilities.
  • Use professional knowledge and judgement to plan and implement appropriate daily workouts.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches to ensure proper techniques are being taught and athletes are learning and improving.
  • Develop season plans for different age and ability groups to fit in with the overall team and head coach philosophy.
  • Assists with team tryouts, individual evaluations, Masters Swim Program, and/or other team-related programs.
  • Participates and/or assists in coordination of Swim Club events and functions.
  • Ensure daily and season-long training is age and ability appropriate. Modify training for athletes in case of injury or over-training.
  • Manages meet entries for developmental group swimmers and coordinates appropriate coach coverage for those Attend and coach weekend swim meets as necessary and directed. Participate in team social events.
  • Communicates with athletes, parents and coaches utilizing email, newsletter, social media, regarding practices, meets, or other events concerning the team.
  • Monitors and logs daily attendance. Maintains records of assistant/part-time coach’s certifications and USA Swimming memberships.

Qualifications:

  • 3 Years of swim coaching experience with at least 1 year as lead coach.
  • Must hold current CPR, Lifeguarding and/or Coaches Safety Training certifications or ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Member in good standing with USA Swimming.

About the Position:

Required Qualifications:

What to Expect
The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Swimming & Diving Coach by coaching Cadet-athletes, recruiting, monitoring Cadet-athletes’ academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, overseeing the discipline and conduct of the Cadet-athletes. What You’ll Do
25% Coaching
  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of AWPAA; to include adhering to and enforcing all applicable policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of USMA, the Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Assists the Head Coach the ongoing teaching and instruction of Cadet-athletes in the performance of their sport such as, but not limited to, games, practices, individual and team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
  • Coach and instruct student-athletes individually and in groups and demonstrate game techniques and skills required to be successful.
  • Plan and attend coaching and practice sessions, games, tournaments, etc. in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations for specified positions.

5% Academics

Sharks Swim Club, located in SE Houston- 1115 Falling Leaf DR, Friendswood, Tx. is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and organized coach to help our growing team & its swimmers achieve their ultimate potential in skill development, preparation, and competition while promoting a creative, positive, and healthy team environment. Our primary facility is at Friendswood High School -13/12 lane indoor facility along with other nearby facilities including 50-meter water. This is an opportunity to lead a highly qualified /diverse coaching staff. We also have a complementary lesson and feeder program that leads into our competitive program. The club is very coach-directed with a supportive board (3 non-members, 1 parent, and the Head coach) and parent volunteers.

 

Essentials include:

  • Minimum of college degree
  • USA Permanent Resident
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possess the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment
  • Must abide by the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and Safe Sport

 

Coaching Qualifications & Expectations include:

  • Current USA Swim coaching credentials, preferably with 10 or more years of competitive coaching experience. Preferred ASCA Level 4 or higher or equivalent.
  • Applicant should have experience that illustrates excellent communication & motivation skills with children, taking into consideration varied social, emotional & physical attributes.
  • Administrative tasks such as hiring/managing staff, experience Team Unify knowledge, and group/team communications. Aid in the recruitment of new swimmers through various means.
  • Create and implement ideas to develop as well as promote efficient team operations
  • Passion for working with swimmers of all ages & abilities.
  • The applicant must understand the importance of teamwork and will be committed to helping the overall program flourish.
  • Works well independently & in a team environment.

Compensation is competitive within the Gulf LSC. Salary is based on the experience and administrative skill set the person brings to the team. Includes a base salary, paid vacation, paid professional development, travel expense reimbursement for meets, and coverage of 75% of health insurance through USA Swimming. The potential for additional financial incentives may be available and will be negotiated when an employment agreement is drafted. The objective is to have the position filled no later than July 31 and start coaching no later than mid/late August.
