Aquatics Manager/Swim Team Coach

General Statement of Job

The City of Valley has an opening for a full-time Aquatics Manager with the Valley Recreation Department

Under limited supervision, the Aquatics Manager will oversee the indoor pool under the Valley Recreation Department including maintenance, cleanliness, and rental schedule. Manager will oversee part-time lifeguards and swim instructors including scheduling, hiring, and job performances. Manager should have previous swim team and/or swim team coaching experience. Manager must exercise initiative and independent judgment in the job including problem shooting, maintenance issues, and employee and public complaints. Employee must hold lifeguard, 1st Aid/CPR Certifications and CPO certificate or be willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment if necessary. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with program participants, employees, volunteers and the general public. This position will report the Recreation Director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Direct, coordinate and supervise programs including swim lessons, swim team, master swim team and pool special events.
*Schedule part-time lifequards and other pool personnel.
*Have the ability to keep a calm demeanor when speaking with the public
*Order and maintain inventory of pool chemicals and supplies
*Speak and make presentations at schools and civic organizations
*Market youth and adult lessons, swim team, master swim team and pool events to schools and media
*Review utility consumption and strive to minimize cost
*Provides recommendations for assigned division budget
*Monitors HVAC, pool pack, video surveillance and preventative maintenance services ensuring systems are maintained on a scheduled basis
*Assures compliance with City Administrative rules and regulations as related to purchasing, inventory, payroll, personnel actions, budget administration, receipts of funds and related procedures.
*Assist when necessary with other recreation programs
*Performs other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director

REQUIREMENTS

*Bachelor’s Degree and/or 3-5 years experience in aquatic management and swim team coaching or participating on a swim team at the collegiate level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, abilities, and knowledge.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations: A valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one may be required. Certified in basic first-aid/CPR/AED and lifeguard. CPO Certified or the ability to obtain one is required.Experience with leading a swim team or have competed on a swim team preferred.

*Knowledge of basic computer skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee is required to successfully complete a pre-employment, post-offer physical exam and drug screen.

*Full-time position
*Regularly scheduled hours year-round, with weekend, night work, and/or holiday work.
*Work conditions will be indoor and outdoor in all types of weather

Salary based on experience and knowledge of job. Benefits include state retirement, health insurance, vacation, and sick leave.
