HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison used a plethora of individual medal finishes to emerge victorious, 197-111, over Richmond in non-conference swimming and diving action on Saturday at Savage Natatorium.
The Dukes move to 4-2 in dual meets while the Spiders drop to 2-4.
JMU won 13 events, including sweeps of both boards and all three relays.
Dive
- Lexi Lehman won the 3-meter board with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 285.83. Lindsey Hammar (272.55), Maddie O’Mera (246.68) and Maddie Yager (239.93) took up the next three finishes.
- In the 1-meter, Yager took home the gold with a score of 246.38. Five Dukes followed behind her in Lehman, Felicity Ryan, Hammar, O’Mera and Abi White.
Relays
- The team of Lauren Aylmer, Suzanne Earnshaw, Madison Cottrell and Jamie Cornwell took home the gold in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.08.
- In the 400 Medley Relay, a time of 3:56.42 secured a win for Aylmer, Devan Taylor, Sarah Gaudet and Cornwell.
- Jordyn Schnell, Emily Drakopoulos, Abby Zindler and Alaina Park used a time of 1:37.22 in the 200 Free Relay to secure the relay sweep for the Dukes.
Individual
- Five different races (50, 500 and 1000 Frees, 100 Fly and 200 IM) saw the Dukes take the first two finishes, while Angela Ritchie (2:06.61), Abby Maguire (2:11.48) and Rachel McCoy (2:11.59) swept the 200 Fly.
- Cottrell took home two wins, swimming a time of 2:22.98 in the 200 Breast and a 57.82 in the 100 Fly.
- Alex Volk took home the 50 Free win with a time of 23.73.
- Grace Bousum won the 500 Free with a time of 5:07.77, while Jess Pryne finished second (5:10.23) and added a win in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:31.34.
- Schnell swam a time of 1:54.65 to win the 200 Free.
- In the 200 IM, Park won with a time of 2:12.59.
Up Next
The Dukes will take the rest of 2022 off and will compete next on Jan. 14, 2023 in a dual meet at Marshall.

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving team fell in a dual meet at James Madison on Saturday by a score of 197-111.
The Spiders day was highlighted by sweeps in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.
Carstyn Klosterman won the 100 back with a 1:01.78 posting, while Julia Krichev finished second with a 1:03.77 and Caitlyn Hughes finished third with a 1:04.87. In the 100 free, Lauren Medlin led the Spiders with a 54.20, Abby Fuller took second with a 54.86 and Emma Martin followed with a 56.99 for third.
Other Spider highlights included freshmen Katie Chignell (1:55.21) and Caitlyn Hughes (1:55.84) finishing second and third in the 200 freestyle. Chignell then took third in the 500 free with a 5:12.44 clocking.
Sara Greene took second in the 200 breast with a 2:23.48, while Christina Levins followed with a 2:25.71 for third. Medlin finished third in the 50 free with a 24.00.
Jenna Miller recorded a 1:10.07 for second in the 100 breaststroke and Mattie Williams followed with a 1:12.94 for third.
Caroline Weldon touched at 2:07.19 in the 200 backstroke and Claire O’Shaughnessy took third in the 100 butterfly with a 59.29.
Fuller swam a 2:18.68 for third in the 200 IM and Natalie Stuart clocked a 10:39.05 for third in the 1,000 free, while Alexa Connors followed for fourth with a 10:40.36.
