INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swim and dives teams defeated the Cleveland State Vikings to open the #HLSD packed weekend. The men’s team earned a dominant win over the Vikings, 205-95 while the women’s team earned a 183-116 win.

On the boards, the Jags earned a nearly complete clean sweep of every event. For the women, Alaina Heyde took first in both events with a score of 282.08 in the 1-meter and 282.90 in the 3-meter. Sadie Smith earned second in both events.

For the men, all three divers finished in the top three of both events, sweeping the Vikings. Sebastian Otero led the way with victories in both the 1-meter (337.73) and 3-meter (386.48). Adam Schmehl earned his zone cut score in the 1-meter with a score of 304.65.

The Jags started the swim portion off with the 200 medley relay. IUPUI took first for both the men’s and women’s. The women’s team made up of Lauren ThompsonVictoria SurdykaLillian Brandt and Kate Larsen earned first with a time of 1:44.97 while the men’s team of Keiran Tahmaan, Logan KellyKevin Burke and Spencer Jyawook took first with a time of 1:27.11.

Emmaleigh Zietlow earned her first win of the night in the 1650 free with a dominate time of 16:46.63. Freshman Samantha Lee followed in second with a time of 17:15.45. Youssef Magdy then took his first-place finish of the night in the 1650 free with a time of 15:34.55.

On limited time rest, Zietlow followed her 1650 win with a victory in the 200 free at 1:49.18. Nathan Rariden led the Jags for the men in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.76 to finish second overall.

Tori Barnet led the way in the women’s 100 back, finishing second with a time of 58.45. On the men’s side, freshman Jack Gallob took first with a time of 48.67 while Rahmaan followed in second with a time of 49.63.

Freshman Surdyka earned first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.89 for the women’s team. Kelly showed his specialty once again in the breaststroke with a first-place finish in the 100 breast at 53.60 while freshman Dakota Kinder followed in second (57.06).

Next was the 200 fly with Madelyn Weber taking second with a time of 2:07.75 while Isaac Wilson also finished second with a time of 1:51.18. In the 50 free, Brandt took the first-place finish with a time of 23.54 while Burke earned first for the men at 20.19.

Brandt earned her second first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 51.55. Jyawook sealed the first-place finish for the men with a time of 44.83 while Rariden followed in second with a time of 46.08.

In the 200 back Barnet earned third to lead the Jags with a time of 2:06.74 while Gallob earned his second first-place finish with a time of 1:47.66 in the 200 back. In the 200 breast, Tessa Jones led the women with a second place finish with a time of 2:21.66. Kelly dominated in the men’s 200 breast with a time of 1:58.46 while freshman Turner Long swam a personal best time of 2:02.51 to finish second.

Zietlow collected yet another first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.58 while Magdy collected his second first-place finish of the night with a time of 4:31.21 in the 500 free. Lee and Rariden took second.

Priscilla Zavala earned first in the 100 fly with a time of 56.75 while Hanna Barton followed in second. Jyawook kept his title in the 100 fly with a time of 47.85 while Burke followed in second place.

Jones collected another top finish with a first-place finish in the 400 IM at 4:33.49. Freshman Long was just barley out touched on the men’s side, taking second at 3:55.42.

The Jags wrapped the meet up with the 400 free relay. The women’s relay team of Brandt, Larsen, Zietlow and Barnet took first with a time of 3:29.02. The men’s team of Burke, Jyawook, Rariden and Kelly took the victory by almost four seconds at 3:01.25.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will host Cleveland State and Milwaukee in the IU Natatorium tomorrow, Saturday October 28 starting at 2:00 PM.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Milwaukee women’s swimming and diving program swept the competition on Saturday in their first conference tri-meet of the year. The Panthers bested reigning Horizon League runners-up IUPUI 155.5-142.5 and followed that up with a 178-120 win over Cleveland State.

The Panthers put together yet another strong early-season showing, winning six events and scoring in multiple others.

“It was a good trip for us down to Indy,” head coach Kyle Clements commented. “We didn’t get done with our meet until 7 PM Friday night and we pulled away from campus to head to Indianapolis less than twelve hours later.

“In any circumstances Saturday was not going to be easy,” Clements continued. “But we made the most out of it and came home with some things to work on, some fast times, and some wins.”

Carly Plate contributed to two wins on the day, grabbing an individual first in the 50 yard backstroke and helping the 200 yard freestyle relay team to a win. Plate also took second in the 100 yard backstroke and was a part of the second-place 400 yard medley relay team.

Johanna Edgren had a big meet of her own, placing second in the 50 yard butterfly while winning the 100 yard race. Nhia Caras was the first to touch the wall in the 50 yard freestyle, and placed third in the 100 yard butterfly, right behind Edgren. Caras was also a part of the first-place 200 yard freestyle relay team.

Julie Rebek had a strong showing on the diving boards, placing third in both the 1 meter and 3 meter events, with scores of 253.3 and 247.4.

Janelle Schulz put together a quality meet, highlighted by a top finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.88 seconds. Schulz also placed second in the 200 yard IM and was the anchor leg for the second-place 400 yard medley relay team.

Mara Freeman took first in the 100 yard backstroke and third in the 50 yard backstroke, winning the 100 yard by nearly half of a second.

Noelle Bryan and Brielle Laube joined Plate and Caras to take the 200 yard freestyle relay crown, while Plate and Schulz were joined on the second-place 400 yard medley relay team by Ava Schlageter and Erika Thomas.

The Panthers are back at the Klotsche next weekend for a two meet homestand, hosting Davenport University and Wheaton College. Davenport will be in town for a 3 PM meet on Friday, and Milwaukee will face Wheaton at 1 PM on Saturday.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Milwaukee men’s swimming and diving program fell to both IUPUI and Cleveland State on Saturday in their first conference tri-meet of the season. The Panthers fell by scores of 71-227 and 117-181, respectively.

While Milwaukee was unable to take first in any of the events, they did have multiple Panthers place top three in their respective events. Jay Jensen placed third in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles, while also helping the 200 yard freestyle relay team to a third place finish.

Charlie House continued a strong start to his freshman campaign with a second-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, while Ben Lorenz placed third in the 50 yard freestyle, touching the wall less than half of a second behind the first place finisher. Both House and Lorenz were a part of the 200 yard freestyle relay team, along with Jensen and Jackson Ahrens.

Hayden Christiansen grabbed a third-place finish in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 24.14 seconds, and Andrew Jones took third place in the 50 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 26.79 seconds.

Adam St. John put together another strong showing on the 3 meter board, scoring 275.15 and placing second.

The Panthers are back at the Klotsche next weekend for a two meet homestand, hosting Davenport University and Wheaton College. Davenport will be in town for a 3 PM meet on Friday, and Milwaukee will face Wheaton at 1 PM on Saturday.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State completed its second day on the road, falling to IUPUI, 155-143, and Milwaukee, 178-120. On the day, the Green and White won three individual races and one relay.

“Today was incredible,” said coach Burandt. “We aren’t historically known as a sprint program, and today we sprinted and were competitive in ways we’ve never been able to before. We had the most fun, were the loudest team, and were incredibly competitive. I can’t wait to see how our team performs in the next dual meet against Youngstown and at Magnus.”

Cleveland State started the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Audrey ButcherGrace ButcherTess Walsh, and Ana Sofia Sousa finished in 3:54.61.

In the first individual race of the day, the Vikings claimed the top two spots in the 1000-yard freestyle with Mackenzie Lipnick (10:41.18) and Olivia Leonard (10:43.47).

The 50-yard breaststroke was won by G. Bucher with a time of 31.09, while Ella Ciez was third with a time of 31.25.

G. Bucher won her second event of the afternoon in the 100-yard breaststroke as she finished in 1:05.85. Kellsie Krisch came in third after clocking a 1:08.79.

In the 500-yard freestyle, CSU went second-and-third with Lipnick (5:15.02) and Leonard (5:17.31).

Cleveland State had runner-up finishes by A. Butcher (27.36) in the 50-yard backstroke, Walsh (59.29) in the 100-yard butterfly, Sousa (53.17) in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Vikings had third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle by Kayla Brock (1:57.70), 50-yard freestyle by Sousa (24.31), 100-yard backstroke by Gra. Chelf (59.11),

The Green and White will spend the entire month of November at home, starting with a dual against Youngstown State on Saturday, November 4 at 11 a.m.
