The third and final day of competition at the 2021 Ohio State Fall Invitational is underway, with individual events including the men’s and women’s 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly.
The short course yards coming out party continued for Indiana freshman Rafael Miroslaw, a German native with limited SCY experience. Miroslaw was the top qualifier in the men’s 100 free on Saturday, putting up a 42.59, splitting 20.54/22.05. His best time entering the meet was 43.60 from a dual meet earlier in the season. His long course PR of 49.54 converts to roughly a 43.2.
On Days 1 and 2 of the invite, Miroslaw went 19.54 in the 50 free prelims (he was third in the final with a 19.61) and 1:33.00 in the 200, winning the event.
IU fifth-year Bruno Blaskovic was the No. 2 qualifier Saturday morning at 42.75.
On the women’s side, Ohio State junior Amy Fulmer was the only woman under 49, leading the way at 48.52 (23.32/25.2). She was just off her best time of 48.44.
Other top prelims swims
- Kentucky junior Caitlin Brooks had the top swim in the 200 back, going 1:53.54 (26.21/28.63/28.99/29.21). IU freshman went a big best time as the No. 2 qualifier, going 1:53.70.
- Indiana fifth-year Jacob Steele led the men’s 200 back in 1:42.40 (23.58/26.04/26.58/26.20).
- IU senior Noelle Peplowski was the No. 1 qualifier in the women’s 200 breast at 2:09.35 (29.36/32.63/33.45/33.91).
- Pitt senior Cooper Van Der Laan was the top qualifier in the men’s 200 breast at 1:53. 23 (25.87/28.80/29.07/29.49).
- Kentucky senior Izzy Gati led the women’s 200 fly in 1:57.17, splitting 26.43/29.77/30.36/20.61.
- IU junior Brendan Burns led the way in the men’s 200 fly with a 1:43.08 (23.32/25.95/26.59/27.19). His fifth-year teammate Gabriel Fantoni was second with a 1:43.48, a best time by nearly two seconds.
Solid swimming and Diving NCAAs will be tough to just score in some events.
