Kevin Chao of Irvine, California has made a verbal commitment to Texas Christian University for the 2017-18 season. Chao swims for Crean Lutheran South High School and Irvine Novaquatics and specializes in distance freestyle and IM.

Chao contributed two A-final finishes to the Saints’ 18th-place team standing at the 2016 CIF-Southern Section Division II Championships last May: he came in seventh in the 200 free (1:42.48) and third in the 500 free (4:33.43). Chao then went on to the CIF State Championships and dropped time in both events, going lifetime-bests of 1:41.72 and 4:30.59.
In club swimming this past season he earned Winter Juniors cuts in both the 1000y free and 800m free, in addition to the 500, and a Summers Juniors cut in the 400m free. Chao capped off his summer by competing in the 400/800/1500m freestyle events at 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals.
His top times are:
- 200 free: 1:41.72 / 1:57.10
- 500/400 free: 4:30.59 / 4:03.01
- 1000/800 free: 9:20.79 / 8:25.58
- 1650/1500 free: 15:56.17 / 16:21.07
- 400 IM: 4:11.99 / 4:40.73
