Saratoga County Aquatic Facility Proposed…..A not-for-profit group is in the midst of fundraising in the building a large aquatics facility in Saratoga County, New York.  A $22 million Adirondack Aquatic Center, complete with four pools of varying temperatures and depths, is being proposed by a group who has been lobbying for the facility since 2013.  A study commissioned by the group in 2013 found that the Greater Albany-Saratoga region is “underserved” in terms of year-round, accessible, indoor water. The idea is for the facility to be open to the entire surrounding community, including clubs, teams and individuals. The group has already signed a land contract and is currently seeking permission from the town to build the 61,000-square-foot aquatic center on 9.7 acres, with parking for 250 vehicles.

Opinion: Tulane Women’s Swimming Needs More Respect…..As published in ‘The Hullabaloo’, an independent newspaper serving the Tulane and surrounding communities, Senior Staff Reporter Kate Jamison pleads with the paper’s readers to give the Green Wave women the respect they deserve for all of the work the swimmers do both in and out of the pool. “Not only do the swimmers work out hard, they do so with very little appreciation from the Tulane community. A portion of the Tulane community is unaware of the fact that we even have a swim team”, writes Jamison. Several key stats are highlighted within the article including that fact that senior Mia Schachter achieved a new school record last year in the 100 free with a time of 49.49 for a 47th place finish at the 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

2017 USMS Open Water Nationals Headed To Chattanooga…..Just announced, the 2017 United States Masters Swimming (USMS) Open Water National Championships will be hosted by Chattanooga, Tennessee. USMS actually approached local officials and swimming leaders about the possibility of the city hosting the event scheduled for June 2-4th, 2017. Said McCallie School Aquatics Director and Head Coach Stan Corcoran, “They actually called us and asked us to bid on it. That kind of speaks volumes about how people like coming here and our venue.” The city already hosts open water events such as the Rate Race and Swim the Suck, and has hosted the USMS 2.4 mile Open Water National Championship event in back in 2014.
