Four Icelandic athletes qualified to swim at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona at the Iceland Championships in Reykjavík over the weekend. The qualifiers included 2012 Olympians Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir, Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir and Anton Sveinn Mckee, they will be joined by Ingibjorg Kristin Jonsdottir.
Hrafnhildur Lúthersdóttir and Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir were the only two swimmers to achieve FINA time standards. Lúthersdóttir, who trains at the University of Florida, swam a 2:27.81 in the 200 breaststroke while Gustafsdottir crushed her Icelandic record of 2:16.81 in the 200 IM by posting a 2:14.93.
Lúthersdóttir also qualified in the 100 breaststroke in a national record time of 1:09.48 and added the 50 breaststroke winning the event in a time of 32.50
Along with the 200 IM Gustafsdottir broke the Icelandic national record qualifying for the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:01.64 and added the 200 backstroke to her schedule posting a time of 2:11.98.
Ingibjorg Kristin Jonsdottir, the only athlete who did not compete in London, qualified in the 50 backstroke breaking her own national record by swimming a time of 28.99. Along with the 50 backstroke she will be swimming the 50 freestyle at the world championships qualifying in a time of 26.08.
Anton Sveinn Mckee, who attended Wingate University, was the only male to earn a ticket to Barcelona. He qualified in the 400 IM breaking his own national record, posting a 4:24.39. He also added the 1500 freestyle winning the event in a time of 15:38.58.
the only name i can say is “Anton Sveinn Mckee”, but even then I’m sure the pronunciation is wrong.
