Houston Women Expand Lead on Second Day of Phill Hansel

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program saw four new top-ten program times and three NCAA B-Cuts at the Phill Hansel Invitational on Friday at the CRWC Natatorium.

Houston closed out the second day of action with 1,196.5 points and sits 245.5 points ahead of second-place Rice (951) points heading into the final day of competition. Air Force sits in third-place (855), followed by Tulane (591) in fourth, North Texas (537) in fifth and New Mexico (371.5) in sixth.

The Cougars will wrap up the final day of the Phill Hansel Invitational with prelims beginning at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 4 p.m., on Saturday.  Fans can attend both sessions free of charge with no student claim necessary.

In prelims, Virag Peter clocked in a 1:01.92 in the 100-yard breaststroke, landing her the seventh-best time in program history in the event. Freshman Noor El Gendy swam a 54.62 in the 100-yard butterfly, placing her name as the eighth-best time in program history.

In finals, Alondra Ortiz and Landry Hadder led the Cougars to a first and second-place finish in the 400 IM and two NCAA B-Cut times. Ortiz took the top spot with at 4:16.39, the third-best time in program history. Hadder took second-place at 4:17.00, landing her the fourth-best time.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Henrietta Fangli snatched the top spot with a time of 1:00.94 and achieved the third NCAA B-Cut of the evening. Peter took second-place at 1:02.34 and Audrey McKinnon secured the sweep for the Cougars clocking in at 1:02.51 for third-place.

Houston earned third place in the 200-yard medley relay with Fangli, Julia KoluchAbbie Alvarez and Emma Wright combining for a time of 1:42.31.

On the diving boards, the Cougars took the top-four spots in the 3-meter diving competition with all four divers earned NCAA Zone Cuts. Emilia Waters earned a first-place with a score of 331.75, followed by Hedda Grelz (317.85) in second, Josie Graves (314.45) in third and Katie Deininger (298.35) in fourth.
