2024 EUROPEAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 2 of the 2024 European Junior Championships wrapped up last night from Vilnius, Lithuania with the host nation making some major noise to rocket up the medal table.

Although Italy still leads with 4 golds and 2 silvers, Lithuania reaped a trio of gold medals to now rank #2 ahead of Hungary, Great Britain, Romania and Turkey.

Champions on night 2 for the host nation included Kristupas Trepocka topping the boys’ 200m free podium (1:47.74), Mantas Kauspedas grabbing gold in the boys’ 50m back (24.68) and Smilte Plytnykaite earning the top spot in the girls’ 50m breast (31.27).

Kauspedas’ effort checked in as a new Lithuanian national record, with the teen becoming his nation’s first-ever sub-25-second performer in the 50m back.

Great Britain got on the board with its first gold of the meet, courtesy of 15-year-old national champion Amelie Blocksidge busting her way to the title in the 1500m free.

Turkey also earned its first gold with Nusrat Allahverdi clearing his competitors in the boys’ 50m breaststroke.

Finally, Romania, too, grabbed its debut gold medal of this year’s event, with Vlad-Stefan Mihalache getting it done in the boys’ 200m fly.

All told, with 4 days of competition remaining, 14 nations have won at least one piece of hardware.
