On the season finale of Golf Channel’s the Haney Project (Monday, April 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET), see how Michael Phelps measures up against several Olympic icons: 1976 Decathlon winner Bruce Jenner; 1976 Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard; and 1980 “Miracle on Ice” Hockey Team Captain Mike Eruzione, who ribs Phelps:
“You should’ve focused more, Michael! You would’ve won 26 medals!”
While the premiere of “What Would Ryan Lochte Do” has overwhelmed the web (with everyone critically weighing in), Phelps has quietly delivered an entire television season of first-person golf struggles and triumphs under the watchful eye of Hank Haney. Phelps didn’t have to do much, except be himself. The recently retired pro swimmer was lazy at times, understandably and entertainingly, but glimpses of the fierce competitor peeked through. The result has been an extremely satisfying show. You didn’t have to be a golf fan to appreciate the humbling process of improvement. Through the eyes of the greatest Olympian of all-time the effect has been extraordinarily profound.
Don’t miss the season finale, Monday, April 29th, 9pm ET. Here’s a sneak peek of the final episode:
I’ve really enjoyed this show so far, I’m not a golf fan but its been interesting to see him learn, interact with Hank as well as his friends and family who make guest appearances. He’s shot in some amazing locations as well, so the travel aspect has been fun to see as well! According to the Golf Channel ratings have been up over the stats from the two seasons prior as well. Looking forward to the finale with the other Olympians (great idea!!).
They should have given more show time to Bob Bowman, in my opinion. I know it’s a golf show, but his advices are priceless and can be useful to any athlete, really. I wish Garrett would re-upload his interview with Bob from several years ago, I think it was pre-Beijing. Amazing stuff.
