Gus Saldo on Going PB After 500 Free Swim-Off: “That was the first 500 of the day in my head”

2025 ACC SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

In prelims of the men’s 500 free at the ACC Championships, Louisville’s Gustavo Saldo and Virginia’s Dillon Wright tied for 24th (4:20.80), warranting a swim-off. In the swim-off, the two swimmers swam identical times again, both touching in 4:21.63.

After the nodd was given for Saldo to swim in the C-Final, he was able to swim with no pressure at night, resulting in a lifetime best of 4:16.94, placing him 20th overall.

I was hoping they would both have a 3rd swim – either in an extra lane, if available, or in a special heat where they could have a 3rd swim for 24th.
