The big difference maker in his swim tonight came on the back half. He dropped over 7 tenths of a second on his breaststroke split, swimming a 33.53 on the breast leg in the final compared to his 34.28 split from the semis.
In setting his new record, Heintz also earned himself a 6th place finish in his first Olympic finals. Down the finals stretch, he ran down Team USA’s Ryan Lochte, but came up short by just a hundredth, as Lochte touched 5th in 1:57.47.
