ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia swimming and diving teams will face in-state rival Georgia Tech in the second home meet of the season for both squads. The meet will take place at Georgia’s Gabrielson Natatorium Wednesday at 4 p.m., and admission is free.
The Bulldogs and the Lady Bulldogs are coming off a sweep of Florida last weekend and look to extend their undefeated seasons. The Georgia Tech men also remain undefeated this season at 3-0, while the Tech women sit at 1-3.
“We’re looking forward to swimming against Georgia Tech,” head coach Jack Bauerle said. “It’s a great rivalry, and it’ll be a good meet. We have a lot of momentum from last weekend, and we hope to carry it over to tomorrow.”
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 by Collegeswimming.com and have won 48 straight meets against Georgia Tech dating back to the 1961-62 season. The Lady Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 1, boast ten straight victories over the Jackets.
The Lady Bulldogs will be looking to extend their UGA all-sports record of 95 straight dual or tri meet wins at home dating back to Nov. 8, 1995.
Senior Hali Flickinger will lead the Georgia women into Wednesday’s meet after earning first in three individual events against Florida last weekend. Flickinger also holds the nation’s fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly this year at 1:56.85. Fellow seniors Annie Zhu and Brittany MacLean also boasted two individual wins against the Gators.
On the men’s side, Pace Clark, Matias Koski and Jay Litherland all posted two individual wins against Florida along with Olympic Trial standard times.
Bauerle is 32-0 all-time against Georgia Tech (20-0 coaching the men, 9-0 coaching the women and 3-0 as a Georgia swimmer).
