WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams swept conference foe Seton Hall with a combined score of 354-246 at McCarthy Pool on Saturday.
 
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The women’s side knocked off Seton Hall for the third-straight meet with its 159-141 victory.
  • The Hoyas kicked off the day with a pair of 200-yard medley teams going 1-2 in the event. Grace ChenErin HoodGenevieve Youngman and Bella Wylie earned the top spot while Kylie StronkoEmily GieslerGabriella Meringolo and Tia Thomas edged out Seton Hall by 0.09 seconds for second.
  • Corey Moon captured the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:25.35, over six seconds better than the next competitor.
  • Erin Hood picked up first-place finishes in the 200-yard free, 200-yard breast and broke the 400-yard IM pool record.
  • Chen, Stronko and Maddie Haley swept the podium in the 100-yard back.
  • Stronko and Haley followed up with a 1-2 punch in the 200-yard back, finishing 0.19 seconds apart.
  • Youngman and Meringolo posted a 1-3 finish in the 100-yard fly, respectively, after Ryan Evangelista earned a second-place mark in the 500-yard free.
  • Emilie Ginovker and Wynter Bramao went 1-2 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
  • Following a 2-3 finish from Samantha Hagberg and Meringolo in the 200-yard fly, respectively, Wylie (50-yard free) and the team of Chen, Claire Trevithick, Stronko and Evangelista (400-yard free relay) picked up third-place marks.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The men’s side picked up its second-straight victory against Seton Hall with a 195-105 win.
  • Kyle Maziarz shattered the Hoya regular-season record on the 3m dive with a score of 348.75. Charlie Reichle and Joseph Hofman helped sweep the 3m competition, respectively, while Marziarz and Hofman went 1-2 in the 1m dive.
  • Much like the women’s side, the men had two teams reach the podium in the 200 medley. Drew CarboneAnsen MeyerMichael Baldini and Sean Devlin captured the top spot while the squad of John McEachernCarlson TempleNathan Lamers and Jack Muratori finished in third.
  • The tandem of Michael Wheeler and Matthew Braviak also went 1-3 in the 1,000 free before Brett Sherman earned a second-place mark in the 200 free.
  • Carbone edged out Seton Hall for the top spot in the 100 back and 200 back while Liam Ryan and John McEachern finished with the third-best time in those events, respectively.
  • Jordan Gross and Lamers went 1-2 in the 200 fly while Temple and Meyer earned a 2-3 finish in the 100 breast.
  • Devlin and Baldini added a 2-3 finish in the 50 free while Muratori and Devlin also went 2-3 in the 100 free.
  • Stephen Kim, Temple and Jack Brearton swept the 200 back, all finishing within three seconds of each other.
  • Jack Januario and Wheeler finished first and second, respectively, in the 500 free.
  • Brearton and Sherman went 1-2 in the 400 IM after Baldini and Lamers went 1-3 in the 100 fly.
  • The Hoyas ended the day with a 1-3 finish in the 400 free relay, with the team of Muratori, Baldini, Devlin and Carbone earning the top spot. Sean PercinConnor BrennanHayes Goetcheus and Josiah Lauver rounded out the podium in third.

Women’s Recap

WASHINGTON – The Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team narrowly dropped a dual-meet result with BIG EAST foe Georgetown on Saturday inside McCarthy pool by a score of 159-141. The Pirates got individual first-place finishes from Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.)Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.)Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden)Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) and Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.).

The Pirates would start the afternoon with a two-three finish in the 1000 Free as Zajdzinski and Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) would take second and third, respectively. Zajdzinski would touch the wall in a time of 10:31.95 while Waggoner would come in just behind her teammate at 10:35.90.

The Hall would then go two through five as Heim would pace the Pirates with a second-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.42. Behind Heim would be the trio of Zajdzinski, Madeleine Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sarah Pilecki (Cary, N.C.).

Moeller took first in the 100 Breaststroke with the fastest time in the pool of 1:07.62. Following Moeller in the two and three spots were Lauren Schofield (Clark Summit, Pa.) at 1:08.86 and Nicole Bastian (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) at 1:09.13.

Making it back-to-back first-place finishes for The Hall was Cripps. The junior was the first to touch the wall in the 200 Fly doing so in a time of 2:07.23. Jerresand was able to make it three-in-a-row for The Hall. Last year’s BIG EAST 50 Free Champion paced the pool in a time of 24.47. Coming in just behind Jerresand in the two-spot was Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.), who finished the race in a time of 25.04.

On the boards, Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) took third for the Pirates in the 1M Dive with a score of 235.80 and would repeat her finish with the third spot in the 3M Dive at 231.90 points.

Coming out of the first diving break, the Pirates would go one-two-three in the 100 Free as the trio of Heim, Istambouli and Moeller would go on to take the top three spots in the event. Heim would touch the wall first in a time of 52.74 while Istambouli was just behind in 54.64 with Moller in a time of 54.72 to round things out.

Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.) had a third-place finish in the 200 Back with a time of 2:07.22, while the Pirates would go two through four in the 200 Breaststroke. Schofield, Bastian and Meredith Mutter (Pottstown, Pa.) helped fill out the top finishers for the event.

In the 500 Free, Zajdzinski would take the top spot while Bachand would take third. The duo would touch the wall in times of 5:05.48 and 5:13.74. Following that up was Cripps taking second in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.87.

In the final individual event of the afternoon, Waggoner would take second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:37.31. The Hall would end the day very strong in the 400 Free relay taking two of the top three spots. The relay team of Istambouli, Moeller, Jerresand and Heim would touch first in a time of 3:36.34 while in second was Genevieve Ross (Spotsylvania, Va.)Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.), Field and Bachand combining to finish in 3:37.84.

The Pirates will have some time off before competing in BIG EAST Championships next month from Feb. 23-26 at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.

Men’s Recap

WASHINGTON – The Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving team fell to BIG EAST rival Georgetown on the road on Saturday inside McCarthy Pool by a score of 195-105. For the Pirates, Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany)Gennarino Conzemius (Bethel Park, Pa.)Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) and Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) picked up individual first-place finishes.

The Pirates started the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay as the team of Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.)Justen Lopez (Levittown, N.Y.)Ji Ho Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) and Minar combined to touch the wall in a time of 1:33.39. Next up, it was Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) with a second-place finish in the 1000 Free. The freshman touched the wall in 9:34.93, just over four seconds behind the first-place finishing Hoya.

In the 200 Free, Langenbusch was the first to touch the wall, doing so in a time of 1:42.70. Placing third for the Pirates was Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) who finished in 1:44.01. Picking up a second-place finish for the Pirates in the 100 Back was Pantano. The junior swam a time of 50.22 enroute to his second, second-place finish of the afternoon.

The Hall would pick up a one-two finish in the 100 Breaststroke as Conzemius and Lopez took the top two spots, respectively. Conzemius finished in a time of 58.25 while Lopez touched the wall in 58.92. Conor Dunne (Hinsdale, Ill.) would go on to take third in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:03.27.

Minar was the fastest in the pool for the 50 Free, taking first in the event with a time of 21.14. The junior would make it two events in a row with a first-place finish, this time taking the 100 Free in a swim of 46.83. Pantano would add another second-place finish doing so with a time of 1:50.91 in the 200 Back.

In the 100 Fly, Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) was the second swimmer to touch the wall as he finished up the event with a time of 52.62. The Hall would close the day strong with a second-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Langenbusch, Minar, Pantano and LaClair touched the wall in a time of 3:05.88.

On the boards, Murtha took first in the 1M Dive with a score of 315.90 to edge out the top Hoya diver in the event by three points.

The Pirates will have some time off before competing in BIG EAST Championships next month from Feb. 23-26 at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
