Futures Qualifier Will Humphreys Commits to Carson-Newman

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Will Humphreys from Boiling Springs, South Carolina has announced his commitment to swim and study at Carson-Newman University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

I’m excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and athletic career at Carson Newman University. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, teachers and family that have pushed me and encouraged me on this journey so far. I can’t wait to start my journey as an Eagle!”

Humphreys swims for Southern Tide Swim Club out of Aiken, SC. He has made great strides this fall as he has had at least one best time in each month of October, November, and December. In October, he earned a best time in the 500 freestyle (4:43.29). In November, he earned best times in the 200 freestyle (1:43.11) and 200 backstroke (1:52.38). His 200 backstroke time also earned his second Futures cut. In December, he earned best times in the 100 backstroke (51.41) and 100 butterfly (51.67).

He is a senior at Boiling Springs High School. His best time in the 500 freestyle came from competing at the South Carolina High School 5A (big schools) Boys Championships. That best time earned him a fourth place finish. He also earned a third place finish in the 200 freestyle.

His best short course yards times are:

  • 100 backstroke: 51.41
  • 200 backstroke: 1:52.38
  • 100 butterfly: 51.67
  • 200 butterfly: 1:53.59
  • 200 freestyle: 1:43.11
  • 500 freestyle: 4:43.29

Carson-Newman University is a private university located in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The school is a member of the Bluegrass Conference.

The team finished third out of six teams at the 2021 Bluegrass Conference Championships. Based on his best times, Humphrey would have made the ‘B’ final of the 100 and 200 backstrokes as well as the 200 butterfly.

Based on this season’s results so far, Humphreys would be second on the team in the 200 butterfly and third in the 200 backstroke. Humphreys will have two years of overlap with Nicolas Lenuza who currently leads the team in the 200 butterfly (three years if he elects to take his COVID-19 fifth year).

Humphreys will arrive on campus just in time to boost the backstroke group as second on the roster in the 200 backstroke this season, Matthew George, graduates after this season (they will overlap one year if George takes his COVID-19 fifth year).

Humphreys will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
