Futures Qualifier Alex Wayner Sends Verbal Commitment to Ohio Bobcats

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alex Wayner, a rising senior at Savannah Arts Academy in Savannah, Georgia, has verbally committed to Ohio University for 2022-23.

“I am so excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and athletic career at Ohio University! I am so thankful for this opportunity to swim under amazing coaches! I am so grateful to my coaches, friends, and family for their endless support! Go Bobcats!”

Wayner will be the third Wayner to swim in the NCAA’s Division I when she suits up for the Bobcats in the fall of 2022. Her sister Darby Wayner swam for Utah in the class of 2019 and her brother Harrison Wayner, who overlapped his freshman year with Darby at Utah, is currently swimming at Georgia in the class of 2022.

Like her older siblings, Alex specializes in breaststroke and IM. She is also a strong sprint freestyler. At the 2021 Georgia High School 1-3A State Swimming & Diving Meet, she placed 3rd in the 100 breast (1:04.96) and 6th in the 50 free (24.15). Her breaststroke was a lifetime best time.

This summer, Wayner made significant improvements in her long course times. At the Georgia LSC Senior Long Course State Championships, she was a top-8 finisher in the 50 free, 50/100 breast, and 200/400 IM. She dipped under 27 seconds in the 50 free for the first time (26.95), dropped 2.3 in the 100 breast (1:15.85), and took nearly 17 seconds off her previous PB in the 400 IM, going 5:05.80 to qualify for Futures. Earlier in the season she dropped 1.8 in the 100 free (59.53) and 1.7 in the 200 IM (2:26.00).

Wayner does her club swimming with Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team under head coach Bill Forrester.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.99
  • 100 breast – 1:04.96
  • 200 breast – 2:25.26
  • 200 IM – 2:08.80

Wayner will join Allison Schrank and Lauren Hartel in the Ohio class of 2026. It took 1:04.20/2:21.85 in the breaststroke and 23.58 in the 50 free to score at the 2021 MAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship.
