Sofia Bormett, a high school senior from Stoughton, Wisconsin, has committed to swim for Division I Marshall’s University in Huntington, West Virginia. Bormett will graduate from high school in spring 2021 join the Thundering Herd’s class of 2025.
Bormett currently swims for the USA Swimming club team McFarland Spartan Sharks along with Stoughton High School. At the 2018 WIAA Girls D2 State Championships (small schools), Bormett was state champion in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.30. She also placed 3rd in the 100 freestyle (52.36).
Following the state championships, Bormett strained both of her hamstrings and had to sit out for two weeks.
Bormett bounced back due to help from her coaches and other medical professionals and ended up placed 5th in the 200 freestyle at the 2020 Wisconsin 13&O SCY State Championships with a best time of 1:51.92. She also dropped time in all of her best events at this past year’s winter championships.

At the 2020 Conference USA Championships, Bormett would have placed 13th in the 200 freestyle (1:51.92) and 20th in the 100 freestyle (52.28).

At the C-USA Championships, Marshall placed 4th as a team. They were scheduled to swim at the NIC Championships, but the meet was canceled partway in due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, three team members were given DI Scholar All-American honors.
