Futures Finalist Kadin Denner Verbals to Cal State Bakersfield

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Future’s finalist Kadin Denner has verbally committed to Cal State University, Bakersfield. He is joining the Roadrunners’ class of 2021 recruits.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to California State University, Bakersfield. I chose CSUB because the coaches and athletes welcomed me and made me feel a part of the family instantly! Thank you to my coaches, friends and family for helping me get this far. I am looking forward to swimming for CSUB. Go Runners!!!”

While competing for Cherokee Trail High School, Denner claimed 9th in the 500 free A final (4:49.27) at the 2019 CHSAA 5A State Championships. He did not race the 100 breast, however, his best time would have snagged 7th place.

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 100 breast – 57.76
  • 500 free – 4:35.28
  • 1000 free – 9:34.25
  • 1650 free – 16:20.83

Denner is on the edge of Winter Junior Nationals qualifying times in the 100 breast (by .77 seconds) and the 1000 free (by 8.76 seconds.) His best 500 free time currently ranks him 5th in Colorado out of 17-18 year olds.

Most recently he competed at the long course So. Zone South Sectional Championships in March of this year. There, he swam 5 best times including a 1:07.35 100 breast to finish 13th place in finals. The same night he helped the Colorado Stars 800 free relay to an 8th place finish. On Saturday, Denner raced in the 200IM C final, touching the wall 2nd in the heat and 18th overall.

To finish the meet, Denner led off the Colorado Stars 400 free relay, racing alongside teammates Jason McMechan, Blake Wilton, and Kent Olsen-Stavrakas to a third place finish. And in true distance swimmer fashion, he turned around and swam the 1500 free two events later. He placed 15th in a time of 16:43.26.

As a breastroker, Denner is joining CSU Bakersfield’s Alex Dragan who finished 10th last season at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships with a time of 55.40.

When it comes to distance freestyle, the Roadrunners just graduated Quinn Birtles who was their highest-placing 500 freestyler at the WAC Championships last year. His 4:25.92 finish claimed 9th place. Denner’s best time (4:35.28) would have placed 22nd at the same meet. Denner is also joining current sophomore Roadrunner Alex Rodriguez who broke 16 minutes in the mile at last season’s WAC Championships (15:59.34) and swam a 500 free in 4:37.64.

The CSU Bakersfield men are coming off of a 6th place finish at 2020’s WAC Championships under director of swimming Chris Hansen. Although, CSUB has announced that they will be moving from the WAC conference to the Big West conference for the 2020-2021 season.
