San Ramon Valley Aquatics’ Ayden Tan, a frequent fixture in the National Age Group rankings, has once again found himself climbing the 13-14 national age group rankings in several events at the Pacific Swimming Long Course Senior Open in Moraga, California.
Tan secured two victories on the weekend, winning both the 100 butterfly and the 200 back, clocking lifetime bests of 57.11 and 2:10.30, respectively.
That time in the 100 fly moves Tan up to the 74th fastest performer ever in the event. Though the 200 back still sits less than two seconds outside the top 100 times ever for 13-14-year-olds.
His other best time came in the 200 IM, touching 4th in 2:09.39. That 200 IM swim climbs him even higher in the rankings, surging to the #54 spot all time in the age group, just .13 seconds off of the top 50.
Rising Stanford junior Daniel Li was in attendance, winning both events that he raced, touching in 2:14.56 in the 200 breast and 2:06.71 in the 200 IM. Both times were just off his best; in the 200 breast, Li has been as fast as 2:13.59, set last summer at the USA Swimming National Championships, while his best 200 IM is 2:13.59 from the Pro Series in Sacramento in May.
On the women’s side, one of the top performers of the meet was Michigan signee McKinley Scobie, winning four of her six events, finishing runner-up in the other two, and swimming best times in all six events.
Scobie won the 100 free (57.10), 200 free (2:04.39), 400 free (4:29.50), and 100 fly (1:01.47). She added 2nd-place performances in the 50 free (26.38) and 200 IM (2:22.06).
Another strong performer on the women’s side was age-group standout Mikayla Tan, charging to a pair of career-best times in both the 50 and 100 freestyles, touching in 26.69 and 58.68. Neither of those swims would end up being her best finish; in the 100 fly, despite swimming just off her career best of 1:01.86, she still finished 2nd in 1:01.97.
