The Danish Short Course Championships wrapped up over the weekend but not before a national record fell at the hands of Frederik Lentz.

21-year-old Lentz fired off a new Danish standard of 47.09 in the men’s 100m freestyle while leading off his GSC Men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

Lentz opened in 22.49 and closed in 24.60 to overtake the previous national record of 47.37 Mathias Rysgaard put on the books in 2019.

Lentz’s 47.09 lead-off also surpassed what the Dane put up during the individual 100m free contest. In the heats, he claimed the top seed in 47.77 before he dropped that down to 47.41 to claim the event title.

Entering this meet Lentz’s personal best rested at the 47.63 he produced in November of 2021, so he shaved just over half a second off of that PB en route to the new Danish record.

Lentz also topped the men’s 50m freestyle podium at these championships, sharing the gold with Malthe Lindeblad. Both men reached the wall in a mark of 21.71.

Lindeblad owns a personal best of 21.42 from the 2021 edition of this competition while Lentz’s PB rests at 21.68 he logged at the 2021 European Short Course Championships.

Additional Notes

  • Josefine Pedersen topped the women’s 100m breast podium in a time of 1:05.93. Splitting 30.98/34.95, Pedersen put up the 2nd sub-1:06 time of her career, with the 23-year-old’s personal best remaining at the 1:05.68 she logged at this same meet last year.
  • Emilie Beckmann got it done for gold in the women’s 100m fly. Touching in 58.22, Beckmann beat the field by nearly one second. She owns a personal best of 56.22 in this event from 2017.
  • The women’s 200m and 400m IM events saw Mia West top the podium in each, with the 16-year-old winning the former in 2:10.60 and the latter in 4:39.96.
  • Rasmus Nickelsen was too quick to catch in the men’s 50m fly, posting a mark of 22.82 for the victory. His time fell just .03 outside of the Danish national record of 22.79 Jakob Andkjaer put on the books in 2009. Nickelsen also earned gold in the men’s 100m fly event, producing a time of 51.04. He is the national record holder in the race, owning a PB of 50.83 from 2 years ago.
