Former WR Holder Carly Piper Resumes Coaching Career at SWAT

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Carly Piper has joined the coaching staff of the Southwest Aquatics Team in the outskirts of greater Milwaukee. There, she’ll coach a senior group that has produced swimmers like Cleveland State commit Patrick Walsh, the Borland twins who swim at UW-Milwaukee, and Florida State’s Sami Pochowski.

Piper, an alumni of the University of Wisconsin, was a member of the 2004 Olympic Team, where she won a gold medal as a part of the 800 free relay. She swam both prelims and finals of that race, and in finals they broke a 17-year old World Record in the event (and landing Piper a share of the Golden Goggle Award for Relay Performance of the Year.)

Among other college accomplishments were 17 All-American awards (11 first team honors), the 2005 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, and a four-time NCAA Champion in both the 500 and 1650 freestyles.

She retired after the 2008 Olympic Trials.

SWAT is amassing an impressive staff under head coach Shane Ryan and associate head coach Dave Willoughby that now includes 8 former NCAA swimmers who combine for 47 NCAA All-American honors.

Piper’s previous coaching stop was with Pointe Aquatics, though she’s recently been doing some outside-of-the-sport work.

About mr Ryan, I am curious how he ever passed a USA swimming background
Check. When he was 19, he was charged with 3 counts of felony child abuse. The
Charges were amended in a plea agreement to 3 charges of misdeamenor battery.
He was given a deferred prosecution. If you doubt this lookup the court records
For WI Circuit court., otherwise known as CCAP. Middle initial is T.
