Florida HS State Champion Maryn McDade Stays In-State With Commitment To FSU (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sprinter Maryn McDade will stay close to home to continue her academic and swim career, as the Fleming Island native is heading to Florida University this fall. McDade, a Florida High School State champion, trains with the Bolles School Sharks, a program that has helped produce Olympians.

While attending Fleming Island High School, McDade became a three-time FHSAA 3A state champion (SCY) in the 50 free. In 2021, she won the 50 free with a time of 23.58 and placed 2nd in the 100 free with 51.47 as a sophomore. The following year, she repeated as champion in the 50 free, clocking 23.07, and placed 4th in the 100 free with 51.74. In 2023, she became champion in the 50 free again with a time of 23.07 and also won the 100 free in 50.49. Classes 3A and 4A consist of larger schools.

In 2023, McDade reached the final of the 50 free at the Futures Championships (LCM) in Ocala, with a personal best of 26.37. McDade has improved her LCM time to 25.76 in the event this year, which converts to 22.48 in SCY. Her official best SCY time stands at 22.84.

Top SCY Times

  • 50 Free – 22.84
  • 100 Free – 50.23
  • 50 Fly – 24.63

FSU, coached by Neal Studd, maintained its 7th overall ranking on the women’s side at the ACC Championships this year, the same as the previous season. McDade’s converted LCM 50 free time would have qualified her for the ‘B’ final at this year’s Championships. Additionally, her converted time would have been the fastest on the Seminoles last season, while her official SCY time would have ranked 4th, with the top three fastest times held by upperclassmen.

McDade will join Amelia Marek, Isabelle Barger, Ashley Sampson, Alice Velden, Evy Riederer, McKenna Patrick, Peyton Orlando, and Karlee Marusik as a part of the 2024 recruiting class of Florida State University. Orlando could also add depth to the sprinter squad at FSU with her time of 22.88 in the 50 free and 49.89 in the 100 free.
