On Friday evening at the 2016 Women’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Stanford swimmer Ella Eastin swam the fastest time ever done by an NCAA freshman in the 400 yard IM.
Her final time of 3:58.40 is the 5th-fastest performance done by anyone at any meet at any age, and is also more than two seconds faster than the 4:00.83 done by Elizabeth Beisel at the 2011 SEC Championships to become the fastest time done by an NCAA freshman.
Note: Dagny Knutson swam a 4:00.62 in 2007, while she was still in high school, and never actually swam in college.
