Mike Maurer of San Clemente, California has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Biola University beginning in the fall of 2020. Maurer swims for San Clemente Aquatic Team and attends Santa Margarita Catholic HIgh School.
Maurer is a versatile swimmer with the potential to contribute for the Eagles in multiple events next year. Last summer he competed at the 2019 Champions Series-Santa Clarita where he finished 14th in the 200 fly (2:08.08). At the 2019 Champions Series-East Los Angeles last December he was a finalist in the 200 fly, 400 IM, and 500 free. His highest finish was in the 200 fly, where he was 12th in a time of 1:55.09.

Maurer is a huge pickup for a Biola team that finished fourth at last year’s Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships (PCSC). With his best time, he would have won the 200 fly by over a second. Last year the event was won by Jonathan Villa, a freshman at Biola. His best times would have also placed him in the A-final of the 100 fly, 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM.
