PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Delaware’s women’s swimming and diving team defeated Drexel, 151.5-88.5, to open 2023. It’s the Blue Hens’ seventh straight win this season, while still continuing their stretch to begin the season without a loss, and their second against a CAA team this season (William & Mary, Nov. 5).
“We are very happy with how the team performed today,” head coach Pablo Marmolejo said. “It was a great way to cap off our winter training block. The team rallied after a difficult start, and the hard training we have been doing the last two weeks really paid off here. We are looking forward to the last few weeks of competition leading towards CAA’s.”
Julia Servas highlighted the Blue Hens a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 270.45, good for an NCAA Zone Cut. Servas also finished in first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 297.45
Erin Shema took first place in the 200 IM (2:08.97), while Erin Lillis placed second (2:10.99) and Cristin Earley finished fourth (2:24.57).
Julia Cichowska (2:08:09) and Aislinn Mitchell (2:08.99) both took the top two spots in the 200 fly
Mania Tasakou highlighted the Blue Hens in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.47 to take first place, while Erin Lillis took third (2:26.57) and Jenna Leonard took fifth (2:30.75).
In the 50 free, Nicole Chiappa finished in second place (24.43) and Kaitlyn Sullivan finished in third place (24.83).
Mira Selling finished in first place in the 100 free (51.78) and 200 free (1:52.18), both for the fifth time this season. Also in the 100 free, Chiappa took third place (52.83), while Natalie Dobrzykowski finished in second place (1:55.90) and Bella Granetzke placed fourth (1:56.59) in the 200 free.
Anthi Lyra won the 500 free for the fourth time this season with a time of 5:07.94, while Granetzke (5:27.02) and Charlise Oberholzer (5:22.67) finished third and fourth. In the 1000 yard free, Lyra (10:34.97) and Oberholzer (10:59.89) finished in second and third place.
The quartet of Shema, Lyra, Dobrzykowski, and Selling finished in first place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:30.30. The 200 medley relay team of Shema, Tasakou, Mitchell, and Chiappa finished in second place with a time of 1:46.20.
Also in the 1-meter dive, Rowan O’Sullivan finished in second place with a score of 252.38, while Jordan Campbell finished in fourth place (204.68). O’Sullivan also finished in second place in the 3-meter dive (248.48) and Ella Drazek finished in third place (246.75).
Delaware will return home to compete against Seton Hall on Jan. 21.

The Blue Hens took the top three spots in the 200 back. Gavin Currie finished with a time of 1:50.16, his fourth first-place finish in the event this season, while Jacob Replogle (1:55.87) and DJ Fechtman (1:56.61) followed. Delaware also finished in all top-three spots in the 200 yard breast. Currie finished with a time of 2:06.60, Jack Hattery finished with 2:07.37, and Jack Gibson finished with 2:07.48.
Toni Sabev took first place in the 200 IM (1:53.77), Evan Frick finished in fourth place (1:58.87) and Gibson finished in fifth (1:58.87).
In the 200 fly, Hattery led the way (1:52.14) with a first-place finish, followed by Kevin Lewke (1:58.55) in second place. T.J. Yaglenski finished in fourth place (2:00.92).
During the 50 free, Delaware finished second-third-fourth, with Matvei Namakonov pacing Delaware (21.33), followed by Luke Rautzhan (21.48) and Ryan Polino (21.82). Miguel Vasquez took first place in the 100 free (46.54), while Polino finished in third place (47.04). In the 200 free, Replogle placed second (1:44.13) and Vasquez placed fourth (1:44.82).
Andrew Taylor finished in first place in the 500 free (4:37.03), the fourth time this season he has finished first in the event, and first place in the 1000 free with a season-best time of 9:38.97. Dylan Smolders took second place (4:45.30) in the 500 free and third place (9:42.61) in the 1000 free, while Lewke placed fifth (10:09.24).
In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Namakonov finished in second place (1:31.86). The team of Toni Sabev, Rautzhan, Polino, and Vasquez finished in second place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:05.51.
In the 1-meter diving, Kevin Siegfried placed first with a score of 320.25, a personal best. Philip Townsend placed third (272.25), and Josh Shipley placed in sixth (180.15). Siegfried took second in the 3-meter diving (306.83), while Townsend placed third (285.30) and Shipley finished fourth (231.53).
Delaware will return home to compete against Seton Hall on Jan. 21.

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel women’s swimming and diving team fell to Delaware in a senior day meet on Saturday. Despite a few standout performances, the Dragons fell short as they lost 151.5-88.5
Lera Nasedkina had herself a senior day to remember as she finished first in the 50 free with a time of 24.25. Nasedkina was also apart of the first place winning 200 medley relay team. She was joined by Megan Ehrnfeldt, Megan Sicinski and Federica Nocera to combine for a time of 1:45.62
For Nocera, this wasn’t her only first place finish on the day she finished on top in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.35. Maddie Riley also had herself a first place finish of her own. Riley placed first in the 1000 free, clocking in at 10:32.36.
Up next, the Dragons hit the road as they will face-off against Towson in a dual meet on Saturday, January 21st down in Maryland.

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel men’s swimming and diving team fell to Delaware in a senior day meet on Saturday. Despite some standout performances, the Dragons couldn’t get it done as they lost by a score of 145-98.
John Scully pieced together a strong day in the pool, as he was able to finish first in the 50 free with a time of 21.04. Scully was also apart of the first place winning 200 medley relay team. He was joined by Oscar Best, Kacper Karnik, and Sebastian Smith to finish with a time of 1:31.40.
Andrea Casini also had himself an impressive day in the pool. He was able to secure first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.81. Casini was also apart of the 400 free relay team which also finished in first. Casini was joined by Alessio Gianni, Sebastian Smith, and John Scully as they combined for a time of 3:05.23.
Meanwhile on the diving board, Will Seely secured a first place finish on the three meter board, putting up a score of 318.83.
Up next, the Dragons hit the road as they will face-off against Towson in a dual meet on Saturday, January 21st down in Maryland.
