why don’t people consider leaving phelps off the relay? the 400 im shows that he’s in worse shape than he was in trials. He hasn’t done anything recently to justify it. Lochte, Grevers, Cullen and Adrian.
He swam faster than everyone else on the relay….. Phelps will have a great meet this week and retire as the best ever.
Also: I believe that it might even be better if the US performed worse on the whole simply for one reason: It would force an actual discussion about holding Trials so close to the Olympics. It is done only for one reason: Marketing. It’s so NBC can have more viewer interest right before the Olympic games, and it was closer than ever this year. It’s unbelievable, and USA Swimming should give the big finger to NBC and do what is best for their swimmers.
Very good point. I think that’s why Michael may be struggling because he hasn’t put the consistent training time in and may have done his best times at the trials. This could really hurt the team.
If you have it earlier… what guarantee do you have that the swimmers will go back to training… none… at least this way you have the swimmers under your wing leading up to the big show!
Because they would report to training with the coaches still. Give them a month, maybe 5 weeks. 3 weeks of hard training, 2 weeks or however much of taper. They had what, 2-3 weeks between this and the Games?
What with the White/Red Carbon Pro Suits? Are those ones specifically made for the Olympics?
Lochte on relay not Greevers
I still say there will be a surprise in the 100 breast – both men and women!
I don’t see how you leave Cullen Jones off the relay and Grevers earned a spot in finals with his morning swim. I think you’ve got to pick between Phelps and Lochte and just because Phelps had a poor swim in the IM doesn’t mean he will in the relay. I say Phelps, Grevers, Jones, Adrian.
Lochte overswam the 400 IM – that’s why his close fell off. He said he went too fast on the 1st 50 of fly and he paid for it. I think Lochte will manage his 200 free better. He got the “big one” done and his confidence is sky high. He’ll swim with a bit more discipline in the semis. My guesses (I hate to call them predictions): Kitajima will not win; Hansen won’t medal; Soni and Larson will advance smoothly; Grevers is superb (he split 47.54 in the FR) and will set the pace in 100 back; Schmitt will not win; Aussies win the mens FR, but USA is close (Phelps,Jones,Grevers,Adrian?); Franklin has no fear and will advance as… Read more »
