David Walton of the Bolles School Sharks has announced his verbal commitment to Towson University as a member of the school’s class of 2026.
Walton, who attends and competes full-time for Bolles, is IM specialist with a lot of additional versatility in the mid-distance freestyle events. At the 2020 FHSAA 1A State Championships, Walton helped lead the Sharks to a 1st place overall finish, coming in 4th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 backstroke. He also led-off Bolles’ winning 200 medley relay with a backstroke split of 23.97, the fastest in the field.
Best Times (SCY):
- 200 IM – 1:52.85
- 400 IM – 4:01.50
- 200 freestyle – 1:41.58
- 500 freestyle – 4:42.93
- 100 Backstroke – 51.53
When he arrives at Towson, Walton will have an immediate impact on the IM group. His best times in the 200 and 400 IM would have placed him 4th and 3rd on the roster last season. In addition, his best time in the 200 freestyle would have ranked him 6th on the roster, with a year left to improve his time. Last season, Towson’s IM group was led by Brian Benzing, who will be a senior when Walton begins his freshman season.
At the 2021 CAA Championships, the Towson men walked away with the conference title with a total of 843 points. The aforementioned Benzing led the team in scoring, winning the conference title in the 100 breaststroke and finishing as the runner up in the 200 IM.
With his commitment, Walton is the first person to commit to Towson’s men’s class of 2026.
