BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a dominant victory over the Cal Poly Mustangs on Saturday at the Hillman Aquatic Center. The Roadrunners downed the Mustangs 196-103 on the women’s side, while the Cal Poly men edged Bakersfield, 153-147.
The `Runner women were led by standout performances and multiple victories from Kylie Ney, Chelaine Van der Westhuizen, and Lorena Jerebic. On the men’s side, Yigit Saglam, Vili Sivec, and Jacob Folsom paced CSUB.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Cal Poly swimming and diving secured 11 event victories and the Mustang men took down the Roadrunners in a dual at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
In its first competition in nearly seven weeks, the Mustangs had a handful of impressive performances at the Hillman Aquatic Center. The men edged out CSUB 153-147 to earn the dual victory, while the women came up short to a strong Roadrunners squad 196-103.
The men won seven out of 16 events and sophomore Drew Huston led the way, grabbing a pair of individual victories. The school record holder in the men’s 100-yard backstroke took first in the event at the dual (48.67 seconds), earned the top spot in the 200 back (1:49.06) and was second in the 200 individual medley. Huston also swam leadoff on Cal Poly’s first-place 200 medley relay (1:33.61). Sophomores Alex Seybold (pictured above), Anthony Moskalenko and Jonathan Butler swam the other three legs on the relay.
Seybold captured an individual victory as well, placing first in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.20) and second in the 100 breast. The Mustang men swept the top three places in three events — the 50 freestyle, 200 back and 200 IM. Freshman Iain McCarthy took home top honors in the 50 free (21.75), while Butler grabbed runner-up in the event. Senior Sean Keegan won the 200 IM (1:52.96) and was second in the 200 free and 200 back.
Freshman Justin Dolezal secured the final individual victory for the men, placing first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 320.65 — the fifth-best mark in program history. The San Luis Obispo native also took second in the 1-meter dive.
Sophomore Mac Follmer nabbed a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly.
On the women’s side, freshman Amalie Claus-Udarbe had a standout day, capturing first in the 200 IM (2:10.32) and second in both the 100 breast and 200 breast. The victory by the Folsom, Calif. native was one of four by the Cal Poly women on the day.
The Mustangs swept the diving events as senior Briana Medvecki won the 1-meter dive and freshman Shayna Gayer grabbed first in the 3-meter dive. Medvecki’s score of 290.85 in the 1-meter was the second best in school history, while Gayer nearly cracked the top five in the 3-meter with her score of 283.40.
Senior Kelly McDermott secured the other individual victory for the women, placing first in the 200 back (2:09.25).
Junior Taylor Lyon (200 fly), sophomores Courtney Cross (1000 free) and Myl Lauc (1-meter dive), and freshmen Ella Bettencourt (50 free) and Olivia Sundgren (500 free) all earned second place finishes.
The Mustangs return home on Friday, Jan. 12, to host a competition for the first time in over three months. The Cal Poly women will host a dual against rival UC Davis starting at 3:30 p.m. at Anderson Aquatic Center.
